Help with beating the heat

I rode my 749 for about 250 over the weekend in 90+ deg. heat and have slight burns on my thighs. Any suggestions how to deflect the heat from the exhaust? BTW I was waring jeans...

I think the DUH answer would be to not ride wearing jeans!

so that you can protect your legs AND beat the blistering heat situation...maybe look into a pair of pants like the Tour Master Cortech series HRX pants with if you'de like the matching jacket....protecttion from heat of the bike...protection from the elements of a crash...and still cool enough to wear and not sweat to death!

Beside leather pants...

1) Wrap the pipes with Thermotec tape or ceramic coat the pipes
2) Install Thermotec foil behind the exhaust covers
3) since some of the heat is coming off the engine--try "engine Ice" instead of the OEM anti-freeze.
4) Install a half system that eliminates the catalytic converters

Good advice above, but before anything else, check your coolant level first.

That's the kind of info I'm looking for! whats a good exhaust system to upgrade to? Also, I was thinking the ceramic coating myself, but I didn't know how well that would work.

as far as engine temp and fluid level, first the level, right in the middle, and the max temp. was 212 deg. sitting at a light, and running at speed it was about 185 to 192.

I wouldnt waste your time on ceramic coating pipes yourself. I used some ceramic coating from VHT in a rattle can and it was about a 3 day process of cleaning, sanding, coating, baking, curing, coating, baking...etc...and it looked good for about 6 months and started to chip and flake. Spend the money on "jet hott" type of coating that is professionally done.

What year is the 749?

There is a variety of systems out there.
It depends on what look you want.

Moto has the good ones at a great price. Check it out. I like the sound of the Termi. However, the Leo system fits better.
Moto, can you still get the stainless steel system that's about a grand cheaper?

That's what's on my bike and I love it. It's actually from the Ducati Corse division. They changed it due to the flat pipe down by the swingarm. I love mine once I got the heat issues solved!
