Monster 1100 or Hypermotard 1100?
Hello,
I recently got into an accident where the guy pulled left infront of me, which totaled my '09 848 and shattered my right wrist. My question is between the Monster or the Hypermotard.
I have ridden my friends Hyper prior to the wreck but have not been able to ride the monster as of yet. I would like to get another 848 but I believe the riding position will be painful on the wrist on longer rides.
Is there a benefit over the Monster than the Hyper? or vis verse? I would like all of your input to help me decide between the two.

i'm sorry to hear about your mishap. the Hyper will be much more comfortable as the Monster places the rider's weight a bit forward but nothing like a superbike. regardless, i believe the Monster to be the easier bike to ride of the two. they are distinctly different but mainly due to their seating positions and ergos. the motor and suspension components are just about the same.
you can find countless threads on each of the motorcycles in their respective forums.
best success

If you can keep the front end down, get the Hyper. As the previous post mentions, The Monster puts you a little more forward in the seat, but now quite superbike position, actually not close at all. I hope your tall, I'm 6'3" and the seat height is pretty high for me on the Hyper, I want one, but I wouldn't make it my aily rider. I've had an S2R Monster, and they are much more everyday friendly.

Before I say anything I have never even ridden a monster, but,
I had an 08 HYP S, and adored it. It was the funnest all around bike I'd ever ridden. Nothing like jumping it over a set of railroad tracks, only to drag a knee in a corner a couple miles down the road.
I only traded it (Shameless plug- to Kurt at Erico motorsports in Denver- He is GREAT!) because I yearned to have another superbike, and well I can't have them both.
My only, and I mean only complaints about the HYP is the small tank- kind of a pain if your doing any kind of touring and the lack of a faring which is just what you get w/ a naked bike.
The brakes, the suspension (on the s) great. Awesome bike. I really wish I had the scratch to keep them both.
Good luck and hope you are feeling better
Dodd

interesting... I'm 5,10 and the seat on the hyper is perfect. You a short-legged/long torso-ed fellow?

Had the same kinda choice to do last July.
Always drove naked bike when I was living in France (600 Fazer, FZ6-N and Z1000) and when I moved to Canada I was looking at a 1100 Monster or a Speed Triple.
After few trips to the Ducati dealer in Montreal, I started to look over the Hypermotard, which is in the same price range, and eventually convinced myself to go for it. Try something a little bit different than what I know
Since july 2009 I did 9.000km. Using the bike everyday to go to work (city and highway) and every weekend for small curvey roads (in NY and VT mostly) but never did any track day with it yet.
I'm more than happy with my choice, no regrets at all.
The Hyper is loads of fun. It gives me than big smile and fun I used to have when I was young and my dad was teaching me how to ride a dirt bike.

both bikes are awesome I currently own a 08 HM. I love the bike. It is the most fun I ever had in a bike. I test drove a 1100 monster and I like it a lot. It handles very well. The 2010 HM its lighter and 5 more horses, which will be about the same weight and hp numbers with the monster. I think both bikes are amazing. Try both at the same time and see which one you like best.
If I could afford 2 bikes I will get the 848 and keep my hypermotard. They're the best of both worlds. The monster is a naked bike almost like sportbike but the hypermotard feels different.

I tested both the Ducati Monster 1100S and the Hypermotard 1100. Although both are good bikes the Hypermotard is the one I'd go for, especially in light of your wrist situation.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I will test ride both. Looking forward to it. I feel as if I'm leaning more towards the hyper now. Once again thank you for the feedback.
