front sprocket/light on dash/rev light for 998
First, my dealership is trying to sell me a JT 14 tooth front sprocket. Has anyone heard of this company/manufacturer before and what are there products like?
Second, there is a red light on the instrument panel and there is no description in the book for it. What is it for? Any idea? Does it come and have i just missed it?
Third, anyone have some type of rev light indicator that comes on when you reach a certain rpm so you know when to shift. Just familiar to my R1 is all and watching for the light. Any ideas where to get one, or any pics of some type of rev light that you guys have installed for 998.
thanks,
don

I have not heard of JT sprockets but that doesn't mean they are bad, a 14 tooth is good to put on the front, second there is only two red lights- oil pressure and kickstand and I am not sure if the 998 had that, I think it does, it will have a triangle in the light, check your oil level. you can buy a rev indicator light, go to motowheels and go to either engine or electrical.good luck

I installed an Afam 14 tooth front sprocket 6 mo. ago and it was well worth the $35. The off-corner acceleration is much improved.
I have one red light on my dash- oil pressure.
There are past posts that discuss the lack of a redline indicator on the Ducati tachs. I agree that a shift light would be helpful. For now,I put red tape on my tach to show redline.

This might make a difference but i have a 2004 998s fe and my oil light is in the tach. The water tenmp light is in the temp gauge. The lights on the dash that are labelled are starting from left to right on top are signal, neutral, high beam. Next row are ? , and fuel.
Thanks, i might look into the AFAM sprocket and i will do a search on rev lights for tach.

I have a JT front sprocket on my 749, IMO just as good as any others, but a drilled-out AFAM sure looks purty. The shift light came with the 999 series - that's little triangle on the top center of the dash that cut's in way too soon
If your oil pressure light stays on while the bike is running (after ~5 seconds or so), cut the engine off asap. Check the oil level and the connection for the oil pressure swith that is next to the oil fill hole. If you still get a light on, it's most likely a faulty sensor, but you dont want to risk blowing up an engine due to a oil pump or lubrication failure.

Thanks for the JT response. No warning lights have stayed on or come on when i'm riding, i was just wondering what that light does when it does light up...if it does.

I believe all 998s have that red light you're referrring to (provided its the one located in the light cluster with the neutral light etc.).
I don't think it's in use.
