57mm Termi on a 749s?

Hey guys,

I have been reading the board for a while now and recently decided to register. I have a 06 749s and was considering installing a 57mm Termi that I could hopefully get used (400 miles) for a good price. I had couple of questions that I was wondering if any of you could give me some input.

1) Is the 57mm okay, or will it free the engine to much resulting in loss of torque/power at low RPMs?
2) The exhaust was offer to me with out the ECU, so will the powercommander be enough to remap the computer and get the bike tuned properly?
3) Has anyone installed one? If so what was your impressions?
4) How about performance between the 54mm and 57mm on the 749s

Thank you in advance

The 57mm is too much even for the 999S (the 54mm generates more HP). I can't imagine it being any good on the 749.

Traded my Temi for a Leo Vince and got it on the dyno with the PC III I noticed the difference as soon as I pulled away in the bike so I would say the PC III is worth every dime & from what I've herd guys arent all that impressed with the DP ECU.

Every one knows things come off easier than they go on but I had no prob taking my termi off. Be careful 57s have been know to heat up your side panels in the back.

I had a Sil Moto system on my 749, 50 to 54mm with a power commander and an off the shelf map. I had a hole the size of the Grand Canyon in the midrange. It sucked bad. I've had 600's with more mids than this.

Sold them both and went back to the stock system...wow! Midrange! What a concept!!

1. 57 toooo big!!
2. PCIII would work but, see #1.
3. 57 toooo big!! Burn stuff. See #1.
4. 54 almost to big. 57 toooo big.

I have the 54 and wish I had done a 1/2 or slip on system. After the power commander I probably broke even on mid range torque. The improved throttle response and nature of the engine, plus the hastle of changing it is the only reason I didn't take it off and find a 1/2 system. Now that I'm tracking it, I have less desire to change it but still would do different if I could do over. Also, I have noticed on more than one bike that the 1/2 systems are louder than mine. Most likely due to more back pressure on those. Another thing that I wanted when shopping. I was dissapointed in the "volume" (not the sound quality) of my full system. But wide open down the front straight is a different story!!!!!!

Not true in our case on our 2003 999S. We got 7 more HP across the power band over the 54mm Termignoni.

Our 999R dynod 17HP more with the 57/60 Leo Vince/ PC/new map.

But since the 749 has smaller valves, you would be better off with something much smaller or slip-ons.

Your test contradicts with the ones linked to above:

Not really. Brad says himself thet the 54-57mm comparison is swayed, since he didn´t play with the F/A tuning on either.

That the 999S and R models will make more with a 57mm then the smaller 54mm is logical when you look at bore x stroke and valve area of those engines. But they WILL require a good fuelmap and possibly a modified ignitionmap to get the most out of them.

BUT.. the 749S doesn´t have either the CC´s or the valve area to require more then a 50mm system AT MOST. Going to a 54mm MIGHT give something to a 749R that is raceprepped, but only at expense of low and middle torque figures.
