Neutral safety switch

Yead dude, that's a normal Ducati quirk. The kick stand has to be up to start. Unless you got an Evoluzione kickstand bypass like this guy:

It's a snap to install and makes your Duc like most other bikes...i.e...it will start on the stand, but die if it goes into gear. It's really worth doing.

Lol, and the other quirk is that they will start when in gear, always thought that was funny, cant start it with the kickstand down in neutral, but can start it when it is in gear when the clutch has not been engaged, love the way it lunges foward if you though you where in neutral and were not

The way we warm the up is to sit on them with the stand up while finishing putting on our gear. Then take off easy... No wheelies or peel outs for a little while.

get that kick stand bypass, it is very handy IMO.

And I love the little switch that my 999R has on the clutch handle to stop it from starting it with out the lever engaged. That switch feel off the very first ride, I did not know what it was for until I could not start it in gear at all. Got a little silicon and stuck that baby on permanently. Not sure if anyone else had issues with that switch, but man, that thing would not stay where it was supposed to, and when you die in traffic and have to try and find neutral to start it again.... words cant explain how embarrassing that is
