Red face 1098s VS. 959

Which bike would you prefer?

What are the pro's and cons?

I am trying to decide between the two.

Generally I am riding in city, but like to open it up and get low on weekends as well.

Thanks!

Havent ride the 959 yet but can tell you the 1098 is a bitch to ride in town. You need to gear it properly as you'll always find yourself shifting between 1st, 2nd & lucky once in awhile to 3rd. Total blast to ride as you have all the power in the world (power wheelies, etc.) but the bike really wasn't made to be ridden slowly!

Never owned both so take this however you like.

959: newer, electronic aids, maintenance less often, warranty, probably more comfortable.

1098S: better (Ohlins) components, less depreciation downside, more torque, more tire choices, almost the top of the range behind the R.

If you are not in the US or Australia, the 959 also has an ugly exhaust whereas the 1098S I see for sale almost always have a nice loud aftermarket already on them. Looks are subjective, to me the 959 looks better.

Having ridden both I'd say buy the one that floats your boat. The one that will give you a stiffie every time you open the garage door. 899 in real life is ever so slightly slower in a straight line then an R6 if this is important to you. Don't feel the 889 has any advantage over the 10.

yeah not really interested in the 899, I think the 959 components have been upgraded to a nice setup, so Im just hoping to hear back from someone who has actually ridden both.

Anyone on this board actually ride both?

From what I have heard here its looking like the 959 might be the one for me.

Anyone have any input on the gearing of the 959?

For an interesting perspective, read the article comparing these 2 bikes in the December issue of Performance Bikes.

I ride all models (lots!), and I would certainly favor the 959. Gotta love that quick shift, which the 1098 doesn't have.

Just know, any Ducati superbike/sportbike will not be the most condusive to city/traffic riding, but that's not really what they were ever designed for.
Good luck in your purchase!
