Ducati vs MV Agusta
I always loved Ducati motorcycles especillay the 916. But lately their style is not that pleasing as the MV Agusta F41000. Any particular reason why I should get the new Ducati 999 versus the F4. I usually don't track, but like it have one or the other for showpiece and to ride it around neighborhood.

the mv definitely has the looks over the ducati but the main reason to choose one over the other is motor configuration and your particular preference. so...do you like twins or i4's?

Like Mikey said, depends on what you like. As far as "torque" is concerned, modern fours have it in bucketloads. They're not like the fours of old. twins certainly have more torque but it's not like a 1,000cc four is lacking..
Looks? You've got to be the judge of that. I thought my 996 was good looking... until I saw an MV... and having purchased my first Duc in 1977 I for one NEVER thought I would own anything but Ducati.... until I saw the 999. The MV also has a much better "fit and finish" and the atention detail is the finest I've seen on a production motorcycle. EVERY part on the bike looks like it was designed for that bike and that bike alone. Still, a subjective call.
You mention "around town" riding. Neither the F-4 or the 999 are much good for that sort of thing. You might want to consider a Monster or a Brutale unless you're you're willing to sacrifice a great deal for comfort for panache.
Finally, in my experience, the MV is better built. I've had ZERO problems with my Brutale while the 996 had several serious issues. Check the MV boards like mvagusta.net or brutaleforum.com and decide for yourself.

the details of the mv are awesome, but overall, to me, it looks a bit boring--like a cross between a 996 and japanese literbike. nothing groundbreaking with the angles/lines. underseat exhaust...yay. sssa...whoopty damn do. it's like all the cool things that people like about various bikes were put on this thing. it's beautiful, i can't lie, but, i could be the only guy in the nation that prefers the look of the ducati 999--it's just very different and tough looking to me. the mv is in my top three though. no need for anyone to remind me that i'm alone in this belief; i was just letting you know that not Everyone thinks the mv is the greatest looking (just all the magazines and everyone else you'll ever ask).

I have both, totaly different bikes.
I enjoy both of them, the F4 has an amazing look & design.
The 999S has the most precise steering.

i'm not really a fan of the MV, but i think it looks better than the 999. i'm not sure why people go so bonkers over the MV. the only thing i can figure is that they picked up where ducati left off when ducati changed over to the 999. while ducati went with the big chunky exhaust, hideous stacked projector headlamp assemply, and the double swingarm... MV stuck with the cosmetically better alternatives and has kept the crown for the "sexiest bike".

When you're paying that kind of cash for a freakin motorcycle you want it all, and Ducati themselves conditioned the marketplace to expect it all - looks, performance, etc. at those prices.
The looks of the 999 were damaging to Ducati but not fatal because Ducati had name recognition, a recent history of racetrack success, an established dealer network... If MV had introduced the 999 while Ducati had come out with the design of the F-4, MV would have been out of business in weeks.
Instead they came out with a four-cylinder bike that is AT A GLANCE distinguishable from the millions of cookie-cutter bikes already out there. No small feat. Basically, it's the answer to the question "What if Ducati made an I-4?" The fours are great motors and in a Ducati-like frame, they're even better.
