carbon key gaurd

I just put on a carbon key gaurd on my bike and when I removed the old cover there was a ring with some wires on it. Does anyone know what this wire is for and will it be okay just sitting on the lower end of the key cylinder or do I have to fix it

It's how the ignition reads the chip inside the key. It's an antenna. I believe it's usually held in with doublesided tape on the underside of the stock cover. Do the same with the CF one.

Bike wont start if the ring sits too low.

The CF piece you bought goes "over" the OEM ignition cover. It doesn't replace it due to the security chip inside the OEM cover.
