Putting Amsoil in my 748....
I know there has probably been a million threads on oil here. But just trying to get the opions from you Ducati masters here on Amsoil. We sell it at our shop and I highly recommend it for the Japanese bikes out there.
I figure it would work just the same for my bike. I have 4600 miles on it so I know the mileage is ok to run it. And with a dry clutch....no worries there.
So what do you guys think about it??
Thanks in advance!!

I have run the 20/50 full syn in all my 3 bikes below for the past 10,000 miles on the Ducati (which now has 29k as of today) and the past 25,000 miles on the Harley (engine/tranny/primary which now has 44k). Never had a problem. It's the only motorcycle oil I use.

Guess that brings up another question....what weight?
10/40 or 20/50?

Amsoil 20w50 is the only oil I have ever run in my 748. It has 14,000 miles on it with no rocker issues. "yet!"

20/50 full synthetic
FYI - rocker arm damage has nothing to do with oil...was a bad batch of rocker arms from a vendor....either you have the defective ones in your bike and they will flake or you don't have the defective ones in your bike. Ducati will still cover the cost of the part...just not the labor.

Hmmm.....I know mine don't have the new rockers in them since the bike is a 1998 and I know the original owner and he never had them replaced. But Ducati covering the part but not the labor?? Never heard of that one. Should I contact my Ducati dealer about that?
I spoke with a Ducati shop and they told me how much it was to replace them all but didn't mention Ducati covering the parts.
And thanks for the Oil info.....20/50 it is!

I replaced all of the rockers on mine at 12K due to flaking and they have been fine since. I have 41K miles on it now. Definitly not an oil issue.... If Amsoil makes you feel good, run it. You will be fine.

Yup...I had one rocker go bad...expected to pay the whole thing and when I got my bill from my dealer at the time who was Jack Trebour in NJ, they explained that Ducati will pay for the rocker, not the labor even though my warranty had expired years before. I don't think the part was that expensive, but for Ducati to do that was pretty cool I thought. Your dealer may now know that...all they have to do is call their contact at Ducati.
Again...the rocker has to go bad first before you approach your dealer with that. They won't replace for no reason. Don't dwell on it..they may never go bad.

My bike is coming out of storage soon so I will have an oil change service done. My local dealers recommend 15w 50 Spectro Full synthetic along with the Ducati oem or K&N filter. Probably because the don't carry any others? Is that very similar to the 20w 50 Amsoil? Has anyone noticed a difference when using Amsoil vs another brand? AGIP? Do you use the Amsoil oil filter as well?
I'm wondering....Amsoil was offered to me online for $46 a gallon plus $14 for the oil filter. Is that a good deal?
