Red face 999r vs 1098 vs 848?

I know, why am I looking at this cause half of you are just going to say " this topic has been beaten up so much". I am taking my time on my next ducati to buy and I have still been loving the 999's more than the 1098s and the 999 style took some time for me to like and I am just still in awe with it, but after some spec researching from my latest issues of cycle world and motorcyclist I found some disturbing test facts against a $30,000 999R!
Here goes:

2005 999R
139HP 79Tq
10.34 1/4 mile

2008 1098 (base)
142.6HP 83.9Tq
10.31 1/4 mile

even....
2008 848
119HP 64.1Tq
10.49 1/4 mile
it gets worse...
2.9 sec 0-60 exact same as 1098!, with 40mpg's to spare!! WTF.
Either I am butt hurt cause this $13K 848 is almost as fast as my dream $30K 999R, or this is the most genius ducati superbike built thus far. Even though it requires a special tool for the rear wheel and a WET CLUTCH (eww) I am having second thoughts here. NOOOO I hate technology, lets move backwards so everything will be slow like my 748
Im ticked, ready to throw my mug at the wall next to me, Ride down to Van Nuys Ca or wherever the hell it is and challenge tye at a trackday so I can finally put a F#$%# scrape on my knee puck. AHHH

Sooo.... really Im just waiting for some 999R owner to say "dont worry Scott I just took a D16RR on the straight with my 999R.

so funny.

it's all about what you want to have, how you use it, and not anything else.

if you're a racer then i too would care about the track merits, but if not, i couldn't care an ounce.

the 999r is a wonderful motorcycle, the 848 is most probably better on the track. end of story.

Well, you're starting to see my frustration. We've all talked about this a few dozen times, we don't need to talk about it anymore. The new bikes are just fantastic... but the 999R is a brilliant motorcycle, nothing to dismiss whatsoever.

Come see me, you can ride my well broken-in 848, see what a nice bike it is and if you buy one, I'll set it up for ya. Before I bought the 848, I was unable to get knee, it only took 4 laps with the 848 on the track to start that trend

The 848 is a brilliant bike, not just for track-day snobs... heck, I've only been on the track 3 times with it. 95% of its mileage is street use, which is awfully dangerous. Going slow is almost impossible, 100mph cruising speed is "yawning!" LOL

yeah, I got family in so cal where I came from so I have been needing to head down there for a long distance ride, maybe next year I can do a Laguna Seca GP race and then head over for some track time

By then... you'll need more then an 848 to keep up.

Talk to some of the more experianced racers and get their opinion.

According to them, the 848/1098 out of the box needs a bunch of work compared to a 999r or 749r.

If you are comparing 1/4 miles times thinking that is the real story, you'ld do a whole lot better with an 1000rr or gsxr1k. (in the 9's) A 7,000 600 supersport will post those times at the strip too btw..

Comparing 1/4 mile times is now the standard in determining which Duc to buy? Didn't know they had become muscle cars.....were they tested at the same time? If not, obvious differences in track conditions, rider differences, weather, day the bike was made, etc....all make a huge difference.

Buy which one you like and check out the pro's and con's by doing a search. Otherwise, I'll tell you to buy a yellow 996 while our local racer hero will tell you to buy an 848 because it's God's gift to the world.
