998 radiator fan help - long

Hi everybody,
I've been having some issues with the radiator fans. First some history:

The bike was running hot, so I purchased an evoluzione low temp fan switch. I installed that and per the instructions, I went to check that the fans turned on at about 180 degrees. The fans never turned on and upon checking on why they didnt, I discovered that the fan fuse was blown.
When I replaced the fan fuse, The right side fan would turn on and stay on regardless of what temperature it was. If I rode around for a bit, the fuse would eventually blow and again, the fans would stop functioning.

I hooked a battery up to the left side fan and checked that it still functioned. So both fans are functional.

I thought that it may be the relay but after obtaining the manual, I do not see a relay at all for the fan. This leads me to think that either the ECU is bad or the coolant sensor is bad.

In the manual, it notes:
Electric fan switches on - first 101C second 102C
Electric fan switches off - first 100C second 101C

so assuming that the right side fan is the first fan, the ECU thinks that the temperature is always just 101C. Before I get deeper into this, have you guys run into any problem like this yet? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

I'm afraid I don't know anthing about your fan problem, but, on my 2002 998, the left fan starts before the right fan. For what it's worth...

Thanks for the reply. I think that might tell me that its not the sensor but more likely to be the ECU.

Does anybody else have any suggestions?

Thanks for the help.
