916 Fan Relay
Ok, I have a '95 916 that has served much of its life as a race bike (not under my butt), and then was converted back to a street bike. It has a full street harness in it and when I bought it, it did not have a fan on the radiator. Well, I've picked up a fan for it since I ride in Denver traffic from time to time and have it all hooked up but, don't have the fan relay. The plug is there but, no relay.
I have called two seperate Ducati dealers and so far, nobody can find a relay listed for the fan in their parts list. They are only looking at the parts catalog and not the wiring diagram, like I am. Anyone have any idea what the part number is for the relay for the fan?
I have the temp switch and everything is wired properly, proved by the fact that I can jumper across the hot plugs on the relay and run the fan if I also jumper the temp switch. I have installed a toggle switch to run the fan, per a write up I downloaded off this site (Thanks!), but, without the relay, I have nothing. I would leave the jumper in across the relay plug and forget it but, I am afraid that if I turn the bike off with the fan running, the fan becomes a generator and back feeds the computer, causing it a brownout that may make it angry or sick

Use a toggle switch until you find what you are looking for. Simply turn it on or off when needed.

I have the toggle switch installed bypassing temp switch and I am good to go if I leave the jumper on the relay in but, if I forget to turn the fan off before shutting off the bike, I will back feed the computer with the fan.
By the way, make it three dealers now. Why can't they look at a wiring diagram rather than their parts catalog?

For what its worth, I think I figured it out after more internet digging. There are three relays clumped together on the clutch side of the battery. There is a "Flasher Relay", "Ignition Relay", and "Relay", according to the dealer parts catalogs. The "Relay" says it is a side stand engine cut off, which would seem odd since that isn't usually a relay but, rather a switch to ground. Anyway, the dealer parts catalog is incorrect, unless I am wrong, and it is the fan relay. According to the wiring diagrams and combing over the bike, I am correct.
They didn't have the relay in stock so they had to order it. I should have it early next week, then proving if I guessed right or if I'm a retard

I went to NAPA and got a basic 12v relay and used them for the lights/fuel relays. They didnt have the built in mounting bracket thingy but I just zip tied them down.

916s have three relays beside the battery - ignition, fan switch, and turnsignal. The fan relay is the smallest, the rectangular black one.
996+ have four relays- the above plus a sidestand cutout switch relay.
