Maybe a silly question...?

I'm newly registered on this forum, but I've been a member on DML for a while and a longtime lurker here.

Anyway, I own a 2002 748S and I was flipping through the manual today when I noticed something really strange. In my manual (page 17 in English), it mentioned that my shift pattern is Down for first gear, and then Up with my foot for everything else. However, I also went riding this morning and it was definately the opposite. It never occured to me that it was different than normal. I am the third owner of the bike, and I imagine one of the previous owners modified the transmission if this isn't normal- can anyone enlighten me as to why it's different than the manual?

Sorry if this question is stupid... thanks for helping out!

If you are pushing down on the shift lever to go up a gear then someone has installed a GP shift kit. Normal is 1 N 2 3 4 5 6. Going up from 1.

If you have the stock rearsets with the original linkage, it's as simple as flipping the rod end over on the shift shaft. It would be pointing up for "GP" shift, it should point down for standard...

Then that would explain it, thank you very much!

Now, are there any cons of this GP kit?

it's more of a preference, usually some go for the GP because of that tight left hander and wants to be able to shift quickly out of the corner without having your left foot hitting/touching the pavement.
