Info on the Ducati Elephant

I don`t know if this is the right place, but does anyone know what is the origin of the Ducati Elephant. I like the look of the vintage logo with the elephant on it and since I am repainting my fairings I want to replace the original 999 fairing sticker on my 04 with it.

Is this wrong? Opinions please.

thanks

There's a thread in Multistrada about the Elephant, with some cool links.

I think it would be sweet! Expect the rest of the world to be totally confused, however.

The elephant is associated with Cagiva and when they owned the company. So... yeah, it'd be "wrong" on a 999 but who gives a rip? It won't look wrong to anyone other than Ducati freaks and those are few and far between in the real world.

i would put ducati on a cagiva, but not cagiva on a ducati. however, it is your bike, so do what ever makes you smile when you see it or think about it

I like the little elephant logos all over the place on my '95 900SS. And since they're already there I plan on having an elephant somewhere on the body work when I repaint the bike. If I had a newer bike and it didn't have any of the elephants on it to begin with I don't think I'd be so quick to stick one on it... But it's your bike and ultimately it's whatever puts the grin on your face. Screw what anyone else thinks about it your toy!

Elephant

Carl Fogarty ran an Elephant on his leathers for some time.

I loved the logo so much I had it put on my Vansons.

And, since Cagiva also owned MV for a time, I can proudly wear the suit on my Brutale as well.

Pic #1 is a Fogarty Replica suit ... Pic #2 is the actual logo ... Pic #3 is my jacket

I have a set of mid 90's red/white Dainese Ducati leathers with the Elephant on the back...It suits a vintage Ducati but then I would probably wear them when riding any Ducati

The founder of ducati was a republican! One other reason I like the company! Just kidding, it was from Cagiva as stated before.

And for those in the "I have to know" category.

Cagiva stands for...

CA = Castiglioni

GI = Giovanni

VA = Varese, Italy

CAstiglioni GIovanni VArese
