Ducati 916 Production Numbers - All Years

I did a search on here a little while ago to find this, and didn't come up with anything. So I emailed Ducati SPA with my question and just got the reply today.

My question to them: How many Ducati 916's were made in 1998? They replied to me with a complete and exhaustive list of how many 916's of EVERY iteration were made in EVERY production year, broken down by the model and where it was sent. I'm blown away by the level of response I got. Here's what they sent me:

Thanks for contacting us.

Referring to your request we are glad to list here below the 916 production data from 1994 to 1998:

So...apparently only 100 of my bike was imported to the US in '98. That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Does this make me a Ducati snob?

Just wanted to share, in case anyone else was looking for this info.

Funny, on this list and in the one in Ian Fallon's book, there are no listings of 49-state US Bipostos... I'd like to know how many of mine were made, but I've never found 1997 bips listed.

Maybe they were all just 50-state spec and listed as CA?

1 of 300!...in yellow, which I guess was very rare. I'm going to miss her. Sold on ebay for $4250...which I guess is a good price considering i got the Ohlins, 5-spoke marchs, and a taillight out of it. :P ...o and the carbon fairings are now pretty much junk after they came up like batt wings going 110mph when the DZUS fastener came out the bottom....goddamnit..

Wow. Thanks for the research for us! I guess I'm 1 of 100. But here is my question. 1998 916 biposto. Which was bought from a Ducati shop worker in Oregon. My bike doesn't says SPS or have the special paint. But it does have the Ohlins suspension and the adjustable clutch and brake levers. Which model is it?

i have a 98 916 mono and also have the ohlins rear and adjustable leavers. from the limited research i have done, it seems that the guy who put the rear shock on just reached into a box and grabbed one, they really were not to picky, showa for you, ohlins for you kinda thing. bottom line, just becouse you have a few of the odds and ends that came on an sps or sp, dosent mean you have one!! i think the only hard factor in determining weather or not its an sps is by the engine, nothing else.

Are the adjustable levers the ones that have the four position knob on top near the pivot? If so, I also have them on my 97 916 Bip, I thought they were standard on all 916s.

I think there has been a few theories regarding the Showa/Ohlins thing. I've heard that in 96-97 and maybe 98, Ducati had serious debt issues with their suppliers, and basically just used whatever they had left on the shelf. That makes some sense, but I've also seen a few 916s now, both Mono and Biposto, and it seems that they fairly consistently put the Ohlins on the Monos, and Showas on the Biposto, at least in 1997.

I guess from the list, I have one of 250, providing the 1997 California number represents all the bikes sent to the US. (I think mine had an emissions canister at one point.) Shoot, and I've already swapped my engine out with a 996, there goes the collectable value. Maybe I should hang on to the original dead 916 engine, just in case I need to put it back to stock form someday?

Wow, I wouldn't have been expecting that kind of a response!

But that is very interesting.

The last 6 digits.

the 10 digit is the year (W=1998, even though my bike is a '99, it was manufactured in 98, hence W. the 11th digit is the manufacturing plant (B=bologna, V=varese))
