VENTED CLUTCH COVER and SPRING RETAINERS ISSUE. 996

I finally got the stripped screw out of the clutch cover. Once I got that taken care of, I went and clean the clutch plate with a microfiber cloth. She looked clean! I then put the clutch cover back on along with the new set of screws I purchased at a nearby ducati dealer. I started her up and immediately noticed that the spring retainers were grinding against the clutch cover. So i took it apart again, I noticed that the clutch cover was slightly dented but it was enough for the spring retainers to grind. I decided to re-check everything and shifted through all 6 gears. Everything seemed to be OK. I just added a spacer to one of the bolt that is holding the clutch cover. I ran her for a good five minutes and its fine
Now, I'm wondering if i should be worried about anything. It only grinded for no more than 4 seconds. The picture should show the damage. Any input or comment is appreciated. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Did you install the rubber spacer between the cover and the clutch housing? If you don't want to use the rubber , you can remove the small spacers (4) from the rubber and use them to keep the basket from scraping again. Nice looking set-up, if you want some used silver spring washers, I have a set here that you can have to get rid of the scraped look.

I used a regular screw washer. Should have I used a rubber one? I only put it on one of the screw, which was the bent one, holding the cover. I didn't put any spacers on the other bolts. Man I wish I could've posted this problem here first so I could've picked your silver spare. I have just purchased a set from cycle cat. Thanks for looking out.

Did you take the pressure plate off? On the pressure plate did you line up the marking with the indent on the clutch drum post?

No, I only took the clutch cover off. I'm not ready to take on that task just yet. I am going to take the scraped retainers off, do I need to do any markings on anything? Is it just a straight bolt in/out?

Unbolt it replace the cap and install it back I believe its torgued to 6nm just hand snug is fine. A little blue loc-tite wont hurt. BTW so you know next time Those bolts that you bought from the Ducati dealership are standard M5 Metric (if I remember correct) You can get them at most real hardware stores, not Lowes or Home Depot.

Not to threadjack, but what do you consider a 'real hardware store'? Trying to find one around here...Home Depot has lucked out for me so far, but I'm always wary of 'that time' where I'll need something that I can't find there.

To the OP - That setup DOES look nice. I think your pic convinced me to go with the SM 5-spoke.

I have a mom and pop hardware store around the corner from my house that has rows and rows of nuts and bolts. On the west coast we also have a store called OSH, they have lots of metric hardware. Also try a company called Fastenal. They are nationwide but you will have to buy in bulk.

Thanks! Next time I'm going to OSH. WHat about the bolts that holds the retainer springs on the clutch PLATE? What size are those and can I but some at OSH?
DRGKNT - Thanks bro, it does give the bike a different look.

Ace Hardware I believe is a national chain and even has stainless metric hardware. As far as the thing with the clutch cover, I used lock washers to space it out and didn't need lock goop. Two birds, one stone.
