996 w/ HP pistons short Ride report
I just finished putting back together my 996 with JE custom made 12.5 to 1 HP pistons with larger valve pocket cut outs, Carrillo rods, a Nichols lightened flywheel, a Barnett lightened clutch basket, and freshened heads. Cams are set at around 108/108 and I also had the injectors cleaned by RC Engineering and threw on a PC to do a new map.
This thing pulls through the gears like a raped ape and spins up so friggin fast. It feels like a totally new bike and I have 45,000 miles on it before the rebuild.
If any of your guys have thought about doing something like this......it's worth the trouble,IMO. It took me four months to have all the parts in place to complete it but it was a winter project anyway and I still had the BMW KRS to use in the mean time.

I got the same thing done to my 998 minus the rods. I will be picking it up from the DucShop on Sat. Cant wait. Even with the small exhaust that I have 45-50 termignoni half system they dyno'd it at 136 to the tire. More to follow.
Just out of curriosity did you do all of the work yourself. To include splitting the case? who did the machine work on the crank, and rods. Thanks

I just removed the motor, ordered all the big ticket items and gave everything to a racer friend of mine that does motor rebuilding on Ducati's up in Santa Barbara, Ca. I personally turbo charge motorcycles for a living but don't have the tools or the time to open up my motor and do it. I'd rather pay someone that does it all the time and enjoys doing it and he's very reasonable price wise.
I sent the injectors out to RC Engineering in Torrance, Ca., injector building, cleaning & testing is all they do. They're one of the best in the USA for doing this kind of thing. This is where the big time racers & motor builders have been going for years when they need more fuel for their projects. After 45,000 miles it was money well spent.

I had the crank balanced by Marine Crankshaft in Irvine, Ca. http://www.marinecrankshaftinc.com/motorcycles.html
If you don't have the money to buy new Carrillo Rods and you pick up a set of used ones, always have them checked by a guy that can rework them to bring them up to spec. before you install them.

You guys are starting to make me jealous. I just picked up some ported heads w/37/31mm valves(stock cams) and an oversize CF airbox for my 996. I have a turned down flywheel on my workbench too. Just did the 520 conv and alum clutch to boot. Bike is stock, sans the 50mm half system.
Seeing that I may have to fix my rotator cuff(torn) over the summer break, sounds like a good time to add everything. Was thinking:
Set squish (aim to get 12:1 compression)
Adjust cam timing with new heads to desired
Adjust TPS/idle mixer/align butterflies on TB
TUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PCIII on dyno
I've seen some 996's get some pretty good results with the tuning combo, bone stock(just exhaust mods) and manage to get low 120's to the wheel.
You guys sound like you are having some fun.

"SIGH" I'm done with the upgrades... Next stop DYNO! I'm hoping to be pulling 110 at the rear wheel on my 748/835 and if I am, I'll be happier then a pig in shyt.

Tye, have you looked at Doug Lofgren's site regarding some of the 853's he has done. You'll be pleasantly surprised as to the results.
Some major Scoobie going on with those bikes. In this part of town, we have a guy with an 872 pushing 133hp.
