for those with a xx8, xx6...

Do any of you have a tank that is not mounted? I am looking for a photo of how the fuel lines bolt onto the bottom of the fuel pump and to see which line goes with which fuel line.

my bike was 85% put together after an accident by my brother's shop and i am putting it the rest of the way. Trouble is, I was not there when disassembly took place, so I dont know exactly how it fits together.

This is just one of the many little things left to take care of, but I want to get it right as it doesn't want to fit if you dont have the lines right.

All directions given from the rider's perspective (i.e. 'left' is the left side of the bike if you were sitting in the riders seat).

The fuel outlets on the tank should be stamped M and R (probably on the fuel pump baseplate, next to the outlet holes) M is mendata (or some such) which is 'Send' or 'Output' in Italian, and R is for Return (or Returne or whatever it is ). The fuel lines should also be labeled, but if not, both lines go around the left side of the vertical head, and the 'send' line plugs into a fuel nipple that points to the left located between the throttle bodies on the left half of the bike. The other line is the Return line. Don't have any pictures, sorry.

Thanks, I was not certain what the M and R meant, I knew it was one of those two. I will have to look at the fuel pump base plate for the matching values to make certain I have it right.

I wish I didnt have to take the tank off again though, that thing was a total biotch to get on the first time with the new airbox gasket.

Man, I have the corsa airbox and foam filter that mounts on the velocity stacks...the tank couldn't be any easier to take on and off now. Takes just seconds.

As for the lines and disconnects, I'm not 100% sure off the top of my head which one (front or rear) is which, so I don't want to say...it's in my service manual, which I usually keep in my car, but I left it at the house last night. I do remember that on my 916 they had the M and R letters stamped by each one, possibly on the outer ring of the fuel pump plate, too...it's somewhere on there that's pretty obvious which one is which when you look at it.

If you have the QD fittings, they are color-coded white and black, and connect to the white and black connectors on the pump unit. Can't really get them mixed-up.

The fuel overflow & breather lines fit onto those small posts in the pic at 12 o'clock (behind the black fule line connector) and 5 o'clock (the corroded post, not the regulator with the narrow diameter side-vent tube!)

M = Mandata (send) R = Ritorno (return)

On my tank (pictured) there are also the words 'out' and 'in' stamped into the rim of the pump assembly next to the lines; 'Out' being the 'M' and is black at the front, 'In' being the 'R' and is white at the rear.
