Tire size question!
I am looking at the new Forged Aluminum Wheels by Carrozzeria for a '95 916.
The rear is 19x6. ...cant beat the price compared to other options for me.
They are offering 2 tire sizes in the Michelin Pilot Power, either a 180/55 or a 190/50.
What are the pros/cons with performance (street) and looks?!
Thanks, Tim.

if it's a 6" wheel, stick to a 190 tire, that's the rim size they are designed for. 180's are designed for a 5.5" wheel.

I assume you also meant 17 X 6 and not 19?? Like Matt said, theoretically, a 190 mounted on a 6" offers the same charasteristics as a 180 mounted on a 5.5"

Personally, I like the 190 on the 6" rim.

190/55 or 190/60 are awsome tires..190/50's suck ass, they have NO profile. They are short and flat=suck.
180/55's any day over a 190/50.. They work just fine too.
I've run some of my quickest laptimes on an old set of 180/55's(Racetechs last forever it seems ) on a 6"rim

I know this runs contrary to the Mantra; 180 0n 5.5" 190 0n 6", but.........
I prefer the 180 Pirelli Corsa III's on my 6" rim. Before the Corsa III's I ran the SuperCorsa's in 180. I also ran Michelin 180 Pilot Power and the profile was slightly flatter on the edges and the bike handled, not as well. BTW, all three of these tires are suitable for a 6" rim, per the respective tire reps I spoke with who supply race tires in this area and the Tire Specification literature Pirelli and Michelin e-mailed me.
The only legitimate argument I've heard for the 190 is for the racer with higher horse power needing a larger contact patch or the recreational rider needing a certain look.
Here what a 180 looks like on a 6" rim.
