New to the forum - a few questions

Hi,

Im new to the forum here (and what a great forum it is too), hopefully I should be hanging round the forum for as long as I have my ducati. Im currently a trainee Motorcycle mechanic so hopefully I may be able to help out with some problems around here, but i just have some questioons to ask first of all and if you could help me out I'd me most grateful:

1: I currently have a '04 749 BIP, and I want to give it that "mono" look with the rear seat, So Ive done a little research and found THIS ,
That unit will fit a Biposto right?
Anyone have any experiance with these people?
are they quality products?
was wondering If theres anything else out there with that kind of reasonable price tag? nothing carbon (unless its cheap).
Oh and is there a paint code for the ducati red? as I would need it to get the seat sprayed a good match.

2nd: I also have the same problem as many others with the whole idling cut out thing, Is this covered under warrenty?
I have a feeling the idle speed could do with being turned up a little, but cannot find the adjuster for the life of me, is there one on this bike?

Sorry for all of the 93 questions lol, and thanks for looking, I hope you all can help me, Thanks

Edit: Link now fixed

Welcome to Ducati.ms!
  1. Your link is not working for me
  2. (a) The stalling is covered under warranty and (b) the idling needs to be adjusted at the shop with a computer (about 1/2 hour job).

Ok - it looks like the link is working now...

At that price plus shipping, you are probably pretty close to getting an unpainted OEM mono tail section...

Thanks for the replys guys..
Yeah, I just want it to look like a mono but not spend big buck$ in changing the rear subrfame, as im correct in saying the OEM mono rear cannot be fitted unless you change the subframe to mono.. right?

That mono tail will "potentially" work, but to do it right (and make it look right), you would have to replace the biposto rear sub-frame for a mono rear sub-frame. If not, you would have an unattractive chunk of frame sticking out beyond the mono tail piece.

You may want to check out the Ducati Performance rear seat cover. They're hard to come by, though. I've had mine on backorder since last June. I'm hoping it will eventually show up on my door step one of these days. Here are a few pics I found just the other day. IMO, it's the best looking seat cowl out there.

Ok thanks for that, I would go for that option, but if they are as hard to come across as you say then I guess its a no,

Just a thought, which mono did you mean by which you said it would show chunks of the frame? the OEM or the one in the link i posted?

Also, the sub frame conversion - is that literally all i need, just a subframe and a mono panel to fit on to it?

Thanks

A friend with on '03 999 just bought one of these http://www.ducati.com/shop/product.j...103B&srch=true

It's the way to go; bolts right up to the biposto subframe and comes painted.

As far as the DP seat cover goes, it may be a different story where you are. After multiple contacts with Ducati North America, I was told mine would arrive in the "2006 batch". I'd like to think it will be within the next month or two, but who knows?

The one in the link is a copy of the OEM mono tail. They are both going to fit the same. Therefore, with both, the biposto sub-frame would stick out beyond the tail.

Yes, from what I've read elswhere, that is all you'd need... the mono sub-frame and the mono tail. However, you're looking at a pretty expensive converion. Even if you buy the parts used, you're going to spend around $1,000+. That's approximately what a few others have paid when going this route.

Well the most cost-efficient way to do it is to shave the rear subframe with a Dremmel tool, purchase a mono-tail from Sharskins, Ducati Performance or eBay, and then sell your old Bi-posto plastics and seat. That's just about what was done on my old bike (see pics below). Total net cost would be about $100
