Single side swingarm cover install question

I just picked up a carbon swingarm cover for my 996 off ebay. it's actually a very nice piece considering how inexpensive it was. i bought it from "carbon-depot".

anyway, it has three mounting holes which correspond to three bolts on the top of the swinger. however, there is a rubber "guide" on top of the swinger that protects the metal from the chain.

does the carbon piece install under the rubber guide piece? you can't get rid of the rubber guide as that would tear the swinger up and if you installed the carbon on top, it would tear the carbon apart.

also, should there be some double sided tape used as well? it would seem like this piece would rattle a bit, even bolted down.

thanks.

Hi.....

The rubber guide goes on top of the carbon. I've got the MS Productions version--no double sided tape was included with that one either. Just bolt it on and go. No problems with rattling........

Deputy,
I'm trying to follow your situation, but I'm a little lost in the translation. Believe me, its not your fault. If you have a digital camera, pictures would work wonders and help me understand unless 916WI answered your questions.

I installed a CF swing arm cover and what I don't like about it is the fact you have to bolt the end of it into the top of the swingarm. There are actually two things I don't like about the attachment, the second one is it doesn't have a CF piece to screw into that bolt hole in the side of the swingarm. Thus leaving an empty spot. It looks a little funky with a titantium bolt in there holding nothing down. Part of my problem is I went with a race CF chain guard which eliminates the hugger, it to requires a small bolt into the swingarm. Theres got to be a better way.

All and all it is a big cosmetic improvement, mission accomplished as far as that is concerned. The stock swingarm is fugly and makes the left side of the Ducati the bad side. The CF swingarm cover cleans all that up

thanks for the advice guys. unfortunately, it doesn't fit. there's a weird bend in the carbon where the top of the cover isn't flat and the top of the swingarm is this thing is not even close for fitment. back it goes... ugghh....
