749/999

Are the 2005/2006 749 and 999 exhaust systems exactly the same ? Are they interchangeable ? Is the only difference between the two the engine size ?

Cheers

- Yes (just not the ECU)
- Yes
- Not sure if the injection and electronics are exaclty the same, but maybe they are.

Np. You're welcome.

But i just want to add that if you're talking about a full system then you have to consider that the 749Dark still have the old swingarm and that i'm not sure if the base 749 and the 749S have the "copabassa" engine and if they don't, then a full system from a 05 999 for instance won't fit.

your forgeting about the 05 999 change to deep sump.the long pipe is bent to clear.thus a 749 pipe will not fit on a 05 999 or earlier ''s and r''999

So are the 2005 999 and 2005 749 the same, do they not both have the deep sump, so you could interchange the exhaust ?

D/S or Non D/S:

All 749's, regardless of year, are NOT deep sump (d/s).

The only exception is the 749R, which is d/s engine, all years.

All 999R's are d/s.

'03 and '04 999 are NOT d/s.

'05 and '06 999 are d/s.

Not sure about the 999S, maybe someone can chime in.

Swingarms:

2003 - All bikes have old (cast) swingarm

2004 - Only 749R and 999R receive new (box section) swingarm

2005 - All bikes get new swingarm, except 749 Dark

2006 - 749 Dark receives new swingarm

For whatever combination exhaust change you are going to do, you have to make sure that the ENGINE (d/s or not) and SWINGARM (cast or box-section) match.

Copabassa means deep sump.
