Oil change for 748.

Hello all. I just bought a 748, and i love it so far.

Id like to do an oil change soon, and was wondering what the best oil to use was. The ducati site says Shell Advanced Ultra4 20w-50. Is that the best bet? Also, what kind of filters you guys like to use.

And here is a stupid question, i cant even see where the oil filler neck/dipstick is. lol, i guess i have to take the fairing off which ill do in a little bit, but where the heck is it anyway?

Thanks!

Please do a search for "oil change" or something like that to see everyone's opinion. This discussion has been mentioned a bazillion times and everyone has an opinion on the oil they prefer. You cannot buy that Shell oil in the US. A good fully synthetic Mobil 1, Silkolene, Amsoil, etc is fine.

My dealer currently stocks only the K&N as it has a nice nut on the bottom that can be used for removing and safety wiring. But use the Ducati one or the K&N is fine.

The oil filler is near the clutch and near the oil pressure senzor.
You will see it after you take down the RH side fairing.

A about the oil along the time i used in the service Castrol Rs superbike 10W-40 and the best of all so far... and this is what i recommend Motul 7100 ester 10W-40.
I also used Motul double ester 10W-40 but that i recommend only for racing purposes.
For daily use ...Motul 7100. Best of all.

As for the oil filter only original Ducati filter.
But i guess that Mann filters are just fine.
Still if you can purchase Ducati oil filter..do so.

Never, Never ask oil questions. It makes people so mad that they respond with the "search the board" comment. Some do so with a vitriolic tone!! the moderators should make a sticky on that.

I'm only responding to say welcome. I too love my 748.

Use whatever fully synthetic oil that makes you feel good. Use a quality filter. You'll be fine. Personally I use Mobil 1 15-50 and K&N filters... 32K later and still going.
