Tips for installing 749 Rear Fender
here is how to waste some time while installing a ShiftTech Rear Fender/Chain Guard on an 06 749.
(1) the bolt on the right side of the bike holding the brake line IS NOT the bolt that holds the fender. There is another pre-drilled hole in the swingarm that has a little black plug in it. ( That wrong bolt was a real pain to get out, as the brake line clamp spings open and adds tension to the bolt, and it is rediculously long and tight - so I was not real happy after getting it out to realize it shouldn't have come out!) Then getting it back in is loads of fun, as the two parts of the line clamp make it next to impossible to get the thread to start, and there is no room in there to get a tool on that bolt.
(2) After getting that sucker back in good and tight, and removing the correct hole plug, THEN I realize that the flat part of the new CF fender will not fit under the brake line, so back to bolt number (1), and loosen it a bit so that the CF fender will fit under it. And then tighten it again.
The 4 bolts that actaully hold the fender/chain guard were easy to install, and the fender fits perfect. With a Ducati.ms 10% discount and free shipping, its a good deal. Now I can sleep at night not worrying about my shock getting damaged!

Which one did you get Kurt? I got the shorter one before the long hugger came out. I am eventually going to get the longer version. I did the same thing as you when I put it on. The fit is indeed excellent another thumbs up for Guido!

Fender / pics
I got the short one, I don't like the looks of the long one. IN fact, I don't like the looks of the short one! I did want a CF chain guard, and others here got me nervous about my rear shock, so I said wtf, and got it.
Pictures? My bike is stuck in the dark garage on a rainy night. When it gets to come out and play again, I'll update my bike pic. In the mean while ...

Timing
Your timing is amazing, Kurt. I just ordered the same hugger and I'm even guessing it'll be here today. Thanks for the timely tip!!!

so i take it you don't need to remove the rear tyre to fit the hugger?
i was told you had to but if i can do it on my own then even better.

...as stated above. As a matter of fact, WITH the rear tire installed you can better assure it's a straight installation because it is easy to scew it one way or the other because it is flexible. Here is the long one on my 999. I preferred the long because it's design matches the Termi carbon fiber design a little better IMHO. Oh, and ignore the slight fogginess to the hugger. I had just waxed the bike and hadn't gotten there yet when I snapped the pic
