Dedicated trackbike question
Just wanted to know what most of the members here do for their track only bikes. I am in the process of making my 999 a track only toy but I am a little unsure about removing the kickstand.
What's it like not having a kickstand? Do you just lean your bike against something when a stand is not available?
Getting excited, going with Sharkskinz and going to get Andrew Swenson to do the paint. Appreciate any input you guys have!
Thanks,
Nick

1098R - I agree. Sooner or later You will start using tyre warmers. Then there is no use for the kick stand.

Unless your track day organization requires the sidestand removal I would keep it until you decide to use tire charmers and don't need it any longer. It's great to come straight off the track and put the bike on the sidestand (with something under it to prevent asphalt failure) rather than d*cking around with the rear stand. I don't have a side stand any longer but i use a drive-in wheel chock instead when not using warmers.

If you have a belly pan and you can't use the side stand than remove it otherwise keep it. It makes it easier when you pull into the pits and fumble for your rear stand.

My track only 916 plastics wouldn't work with a kickstand so I got the Baxley Sport Chock (which I also use during transport to the track) and am very pleased with it. Not the cheapest stand but rock solid and made in the U.S.A. Makes securing the bike in between sessions a one man operation.

I have a 999s and to use the track day Sharkskinz had to pull the kick stand. You'll need to either buy a jumper to bypass the engine kill or rig us something that makes the bike think the kickstand is up. You need a rear stand for sure, I also take a front wheel chock to the track so I can roll into it between sessions. I do envy the guys whose fairing will work with the sidestands though.

Not to keep business away from anyone but you'll be sorry spending $$ on a nice paint job the 1st time you have a get off. Even in the grass it gets screwed up.

Unless you buy the belly ban for the side stand you can't use one.
I like the rear stand. You need it to clean the chain and replace tires anyway and it doesn't take long to get use to. A word of cation if you have the black swing arm and use spools in the stock hole, they will rip out when you crash. Trackdays should not be full of crashes but it happen.
Gilles make a set of chain adjusters that have a rear lift set up for stands. You have to be creative with the rear stand to make it work but you won't be ripping the swing arm in a crash.

The main reason you don't want a sidestand is for weight savings and safety. If it deploys during a crash it quickly becomes a bayonet..
