Paint bubbles on tank - 749R

Howdy.

My 749R has recently developed some paint bubbles around the tank breather. I suspect that fuel is seeping under the paint around the breather hole and it seems to be getting worse. I also suspect that it is a design flaw as later model xx9 series bikes seem to have the breather hole slightly more riased.

Has anyone else encountered the same problem? If so, what was the fix?

I am thinking of having a thick washer welded to the top of the tank before I get the paint re-sprayed.

Cheers
Palooka

pics? gas usually softens paint till it peels off, bubbles and pimples are from moisture under the topcoat

Can someone please post a closeup photo of the breather vent on the top of the tank on an 06 model 999 or 749? I'm looking to have my tank modified before being re-painted and believe that the breather vent on the recent models is different to earlier ones.

Thanks
Palooka

Don't have that problem on mine and it's the first time i hear about it.

BTW 999 gas tanks don't have a breather on the top of the tank.

sounds like something that SHOULD be covered under warrenty. you should not be the one that has to pay for a repaint

It's an 04 model so it is out of warranty, but I will pay the dealer a visit soon to see if they will come to the party on a claim.
