I bought it!!!!
I am very pleased with the 2006 749 dark, shes beautiful and I bought a speedy moto clutch cover that matches the dark paint scheme and some gold caps for the clutch springs for the bling factor .One question though,I bought a ducati performance countershaft sprocket(14 tooth) and am having a helluva time trying to take the stock one off,I certainly do not want to break anything,is there something special I need to do?I had the rear wheel locked up but the damn nut did not want to loosen..

Kaos is right...Did you buy your bike or parts from Munroe Motors there in town?? Dan?? Can't believe they did that. Make sure you give them a rash of crap-ola' for that

My dealer made the same mistake. Tell him to go up two teeth in the back instead, usually the chain can take it and it is worth doing. Your clutch will thank you for it as well.

Not to flame dfaber's recommendation, but with this motor (rpm capability and revvy nature) I personally would not be happy with a +2 in the back. I have +3 and really wish I had gone +4. +2 in the rear is less of a ratio change than going -1 in the front, thus IMHO, making a rear +3 minimum. There is one benefit to a +2 in the rear however...although minimal, there would be some change and the real benefit is you wouldn't have to get a new chain. +3 and up would require a new one.

I suggested the +2 rear mod because it is a new bike and the dealer sold him a 14t front, thinking the stocker was 15t. The easiest way to correct the mistake is have the dealer take back the front sprocket and throw a 41t rear on. When it comes time to replace chain and sprocket set, then it is a whole different ballgame.
One tooth down in front is equivalent to +2.5 in the rear. All Ducatis benefit from a change, but how much is personal preference.
