1198sp - Airbox/Filter question
How hard is it to replace/access the air filter in the 1198? Do I need to remove the tank?
Also - planning to install the filter that came with the Termi full system. I know MWR also makes a filter. Has anyone had experience with either? Is it worth the extra $130?
Thanks!

You remove either ram air cover, then unbolt the ramair tube, then yank out the filter. Replace, done. You'll need extension to remove ramair tube, the T-bars work well here.
No, the Termignoni air filter is good. It is not worth spending $130 for essentially the same thing.

I tested the MWR filter vs DP and they act the same for power and air fuel ratio, point with the MWR is it seals properly, keeping sand out of the box.

That post wasnt very helpful (polite version).
You WILL find sand in an airbox with bad or no filtering.

TomTom - in your opinion, is the MWR unit worth it then? Happy to hear the DP and MWR are about the same performance wise but at the end of the day, we are talking about a FILTER. Seems like sand in the airbox would eventually make its way into the motor.
Smadden - FWIW, I do live at the beach though I rarely ride on it with the SP. Just sayin...
Cheers

Well, if you already have a DP filter you can modify it to seal at the ends, where the problem lies.
If dont feel like modifying it the MWR will do that, and the MWR is worth the money compared to a bad sealing DP unit imo yes.

Thank you. And how would one go about modifying the DP filter to seal correctly?
I guess another option would be to just leave the stock filter in place. I just installed the 70mm Termi full system with the DP ECU. Do you think I even need to bother with the air filter? Does it restrict intake that much?
Thanks for the info and your opinion.
