Will '03 749S forks fit '05 749 Dark?
Looking at buying a pair of gold nitrided forks from an 03 749S for my 2005 749 Dark. Please let me know if there are any complications that would keep it from being a direct swap (brake mounts, etc.). Thank you!!

I was just told by MarkBilt suspension tech that the S forks are bigger diameter and would require that i also swap out my triple trees.

Won't he need the axle from a 'S' model seeing that the dark has rebound and compression separated between the forks?

They are a direct replacement. Both are 53mm top & bottom....axel brakes everything......no problem making the switch!

Per the Ducati Omaha site the axle part numbers are different.
81910431A for the 749/S
81910431B for the 749D
The 's' has rebound and compression on each fork meaning that you have an adjustment that goes through the axle. While the dark seperates them rebound on one compression on the other...

yes all the superbike axles have a hole drilled in them (except darks) for screwdriver access.but really nobody adjusts often so you don't ''need'' that specific axle, you could just adjust with the axle out
