999R Forged Al wheels vs Aftermarket forged Al Marchesini wheel weights
I replaced my 999R forged aluminum Marchesini wheels for 'aftermarket' forged Aluminum Marchesini wheels. I wanted to changed things around a bit. I didn't want to go with forged magnesium as I didn't want to deal of deteriorating magnesium over time. The Marchesini distributor told me to xray magnesium wheels yearly after 5 years. I decided against BST as I didn't like the 'open' look of the 5-spokes. So I went with Gold wheels..will see how they turn out.
Here's the weights using a digital bathroom scale:
FRONT
OEM Forged 999R,no rotors/bolts. Spacer included: 7.2 LBS
Aftermarket forged Al, no rotors/bolts. Spacer included: 8.2 LBS
REAR
OEM Forged 999R rear. No brake rotor. With cush drive/carrier: 15.2 LBS
Aftermarket, no brake rotor, with Cush drive/carrier: 13.8 LBS
The rear wheel combination of the 999R weigh more due to the sprocket carrier.
The aftermarket Marchesini sprocket carrier is a lot lighter.

I wouldn't say the aftermarket Marchesini wheels are superior to OEM but they better quality and lighter. I found your front wheel weight comparison odd as when I weighed OEM forged vs. aftermarket I found the rear lighter as you did as well as the front. I don't recall the exact weight, but they weren't much lighter. In comparison the aftermarket is really quite a bit nicer then the OEM stuff. Much cleaner rear carrier, top quality spacers. I have the 2011 spec hoops which are really nice!
I would doubt you could feel the diff between a magnesium and aluminum forged. I actually like my cast hoops vs the forged as the forged hoops are darty on street surfaces. On a pure track surface I understand, but in hindsight I would have passed.

I was surprising disappointed that my aftermarket FRONT wheel weighs 1 LB more then OEM, so I remeasured 3 times. The spokes of the OEM wheels are much thinner, so I'm guessing this where some of the weight savings are from. You're right that the rear setup is much cleaner on the aftermarket. The carrier, especially is much nicer.
