Gas out of my gas hole!
1998 748. I took the tank off to change the spark plugs. I put it back on and made sure I had the canister hose running to the canister, the vent hose hooked up to the vent, and the color coded gas hoses hooked up appropriately. I rode it around on side streets for a while with no problems, but when I got out on the interstate and opened it up it started spewing gas out of the gas filler. I hosed the bike off, but haven't had time to pull it apart yet. My guess is that I pinched one or both of the vent tubes off. But IF that isn't it, is it possible it could have something to do with something inside the tank getting clogged? I looked inside the tank from the top with a flashlight, and it appears that the hoses are all hooked up.
I just got this thing a couple of weeks ago. The previous owner was supposed to have put in a new fuel filter, gas lines inside the tank, and he was supposed to have stripped the liner and reline it with POR-15. The inside is silver but I don't know what POR-15 looks like when it dries. Also, I can see on the gas lines inside the tank it says "Not for fuel injection" on them.
I did search around on here and couldn't find anything, and I know it's a shot in the dark, but at this point I'd be happy with informed guesses.
Thanks for your help!

POR-15 is silver.
Leak problem may be as simple as a bad or missing fuel cap gasket.

If the lines are marked "not for fuel injection" - you may have a split in the line that is not visible. Looks like you may need to pull the tank and fuel pump assembly to find out. Not all that difficult, better safe than sorry.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I was also thinking of just replacing all of the furl lines, (internal and external) with steel braided lines. Any recommendations on where to get those? I'm hoping for a brick & mortar so I can get it up and running. This good weather isn't going to hold out for long.

Split pressure line will kill the bike dead, vent hoses don't split but one might have popped off inside the tank
My 748 pukes gas from the cap due to a common flaw in the internals of the cap, did you just fill it up?
About braided lines, wouldn't bother, they look nice but gouge the shit out of everything and are a pain to deal with. I think the only advantage is the looks!

you definitely don't want braided lines inside the tank or under the tank. not really suitable unless you are going to convert all the push on connections to AN type male and female connectors which is a waste of time. just some decent EFI grade hose is fine and much more flexible and easy to work with.

The fuel lines inside the tank which are part of the fuel supply
need to be suitable (pressure) for the injection system , but the the two
hoses for the over flow and vent/filler cap have no pressure to deal with.
The two sets of hoses MUST BE of a type that can be immersed in petrol,
not just the inner part of the hose but the outside too.

I went out and pulled the tank bolt off and lifted it up a couple inches so I could see whats going on without disturbing too much. The vent to the street was pinched. It seems like a really weak hose compared to the others. There's an 90 degree elbow of thicker hose that's about 2" long with a barbed union that goes to the weak vent tube to the street. I'm going to replace that with a thicker hose and do away with the union altogether. I dont see a reason for a 90 degree elbow there anyway. I think the line would be better going straight down away from the tank.
Also, I shined a flashlight into the filler hole and I was incorrect in my original post. The canister vent line inside the tank was blown off the nipple at the bottom end of the tank.
The vent lines inside the tank are the ones that say "Not for fuel injection" on them. I would think that would be okay since those probably aren't pressurized, but I'll need to make sure they are submersible. In any case, I'm going to have to get a new O ring which will take several days to get here. By that time, it'll be cold. Crudola!
