999 termi ?
Ok since I bought my base 2005 999 I've purchased a termi 54mm full system, and a termi 3/4 system. Will I lose low end torque or will I gain if I put the full system(with a custom tune and filters)? Im not really worried about top end horsepower. Which would you prefer to put on the bike and why? Thanks in advance!

if you lose some low end, I doubt you'd notice it.

My understanding is that you don't lose low or midrange *just* with the exhaust. The thing is that to take *full* advantage of the full system you would have to get different cams, and that's when you *lose* midrange...
The loss might be there, but it's probably insignificant, and the butt dyno can be easily fooled by change in sound and/or lighter wallet... ehehehe
Nonetheless, here's a read on the topic: http://www.bikeboy.org/999scomp54_57.html

I had a 2003 base 999 w/ a custom mapped PCIII so I was down on HP a little as I didn't have the S cams as you do in your base 2005. I installed a 54mm full system w/ dedicated ECU, filters has the TPS reset or as they say "zeroed" out. Felt good, the intermittant stalling had disappeared. I later removed and sold it for a Termi slip on because I installed the upgraded swinger and the 54mm just wouldn't fit. I kept the 54mm ECU however. The second I took it out I found it sounded better, I regained all my midrange which I usually use anyway, so IMO the slip did perform better with my engine at that time.
A few years later I had a 1038cc kit installed, porting, S cams, valve work, etc. at the time I had all this installed I was still running a slip. Decided to take a chance and buy another 54mm full Termi (for a 2005 749 so it would fit my shallow sump engine and upgraded swinger). This time with all the engine work the 54mm's performance was superior to the slip. I already had the 54mm ECU so it there a pretty good leap in performance. I guess the bigger cylinders, HC pistons, S cams, porting were the diff in how the two 54 mm full systems performed....one not so great, the other a marked difference.
The slip on might not give you huge performance gains, but the sound is tough to beat!

Sorry I'm new to this ducati thing, my base does have s cams? I was also told by someone else that the slip on would be louder than the full system, I'm pretty sure that's true without even trying it out. That also means that with the slip one side of the motor will make more power than the other? Will I notice a better response on the bike with the slip on or the full system?

I dont know about horse power gains. But I sold my 06 999s which has a factory termi half system and bought a 04 fila 999r with a 57 mm full sytem. I never seen it had it shipped here and I was thinking this things gonna sound mean. Disapointed to say the least! My stock s sounded a lot meaner! wtf lol

Yes! all the base models from 2005 on received the S cams. Yes, the slip for some reason is definitely louder. I was disappointed also when I went from the slip to the full system. No doubt in my 2003 base 999 the slip worked better than the full. IMO a full system in a 2005 999 with the hotter cams would work better. I would stay with a 54mm if available. I also believe the hot rod ECU that came with these systems are a big reason why they work so well. So best to either get a dedicated ECU or PCIII PowerCommander so you can have your engine custom mapped to take advantage of the larger system. There's loads of info and debate on which works the best. That you'll need to wade thru and decide.
I just think you can't go wrong with a slip on, ECU, filter kit....if you want a little more performance and sound, it's the best package.

I have a base 2005 with a full system (I believe 57 -- bought the bike used). My good buddy had a base 2003 with a slip. We exchanged bikes a lot. His bike was ever so slightly better in the low revs than mine. Then they leveled. Then mine took off about mid-range and never looked back. WAY better on top. Once he rode mine, he regretted getting the 2003 version. Having said that, he was a better rider (former racer) and beat me at the track days every time. Also, they sounded about the same -- his was a little louder. In sum, you can definitely get the full system running sweet on a 2005, I assume due to the S cams.
