Another 998 won't start thread
So FYI, the battery is fully juiced because I went to plug it into the trickle charger and in just a few minutes it goes to storage mode VS charging mode.
Problem: When I turn on the ignition and attempt to push the starter button, there is no reaction. The lights dim just very very slightly it's almost unnoticeable. Yes the kill switch is off. There were a few times where I would hear the starter sort of engage but it was very chattery and it didn't turn the engine over at all.
I've tried to start it in gear, with the kick stand up and down (bike has kickstand safety bypass) clutch lever in and out without any luck. What can this be? I check all the fuses and they seem fine.
Thanks for your help dudes. I just bought this thing like a week ago and she fired up without any problems a few times. A bummer that this happened so soon. Rode her home just fine and a short ride around the city just fine. I'm thinking it's a bad starter. What do you guys think?

What comes to mind is the voltage regulator. I have a 999 and the same thing happened to me once. I started the bike, took off and the bike stopped half a block away. Everything would turn on, but wouldn't turn over. No cranking or anything. Turned out to be the voltage regulator.

Hmmm... That could be a possibility as well. However, While the bike is running, It has not shut off on me. Maybe it's the starter signal wire or even the starter switch?
I was going to ride her into Desmoto for an early 12k service. I don't want to have to tow her in. That sucks!

Remove the cables and clean the battery connections. If it won't fire up I'd say try another battery. It may be up to voltage but has lost it's capacity.
Once you get it running and warmed up you can check the charging by putting a voltmeter across the battery. You should have ~14.5 volts over 2500 rpm. If it's at battery voltage of ~12.5 you have a problem somewhere.

I agree with trying another battery or at least taking it down to an autoparts store and having it tested (they'll do it for free)...I have a battery on my bench hooked up to a trickle charger that is charging in the same manor as yours (storage then trickle mode after a few) I borrowed a load tester from work, slapped it on and it failed big time...

The kickstand bypass switches have been known to cause problems.

check the connection at the solenoid, these often can come loose resulting in "nothing" happening when you push the starter... many have zip tied the plastic connector to the solenoid in order to keep it from working it's way loose
If current is making it through the solenoid switch you should at least hear an audible "click" when you depress the starter button.
This is an intermittent problem I have with my ST4 and usually is quickly cured by giving the solenoid a wiggle to make sure the plastic connector is making good contact....

LOL It's funny you say that. I dropped in an LS3 T56 in mines! Sold it recently though. Here are pics if you're interested. Let me know if you ever need help with the swap. I'm an encyclopedia of information on it
