Flaking....

Horiz Exhaust Right

Horiz Intake Left
They're flaking, but how bad is it when they're flaking on the edge of the face?

Can't offer much in the way of advice, but after having dealt with my own rocker issues I'll be waiting to hear what others say. My rockers wore where they met the cam lobe surface. Good Luck.

That's from someone forcing the cam in to them, I'd say use them!

Hmm....interesting and good to know. Considering how the inside of the cam journal on the head looks, whoever worked on the bike previously was a little rough. I did find some flakes on the screen when I did the oil change, that's why I was erring on the side of caution....of course, if it did have bad rockers, someone could have replaced them. The closers look mint on this bike, all of the openers are a bit scuffed. All of the clearances are in spec, and follow LT's recommendations too.
Ok, well that saved me the hassle of getting two new rockers. I'll just run 'em for 6K and check them then.
I'm actually finding it rather enjoyable to work on this 916. The valve check is a lot easier than it is on my Aprilia.

Yes, I like wrenching on desmoquattros...
metal flake on the screen is more likely from the gearbox than rockers. Rocker chrome gets ground up pretty fine and caught by the spin-on filter

Just now having 6000 mile check up on my 748s and all 8 openers looked like these. Wasn't expecting to replace all 8 at once.

This may be known by some or all of you.
Megacycle cams does grinding and hard facing of worn rocker arms. The result is much thicker and stronger than factory plating.
All my desmoquattro rockers were done by them and they are fantastic. No need to worry about them again.

After changing 4 rockers on my 748, I say yours look pretty good. Just adjust your valves every 6,000 and check the rockers while your at it.
