"new" 1098S concerns
Ok I'm about to make an offer on a 1098S that my dealer has, it's an '08 with 285 miles, thats right 285. Considering its 4 years old with such little mileage on it should I have any concerns? I don't believe the 600 mile service was ever done to it either. The dealer said that an old guy traded it in because it was too fast for him, 1 owner. There's a full warranty that goes into effect when I sign the papers on it. They're listing it for $14,700, what would be a good price to offer?

No way will you get that bike for 10k esp. from a dealer. Offer 12 or 12.5 and see what he says. At the break in service he should take care of the belts
as they are almost 4 years old now and new fluids. Best of luck with it, my 1198s is the best bike I've ever had, you'll love it.

I don't get how you'd get a full factory warranty. The warranty clock would've started ticking the minute the first owner bought it.

Offer him $12k if they don't accept, walk away and wait a week. They may change their mind. As far as the warranty, that's a valid point. Might only be good with THAT dealer. If that's the case, offer less.

I almost bought that same bike
I actually test rode that bike, it's from metuchen right? when I was "looking" they had it listed for 15K, and the only reason why I didn't buy it was the payments and color. I'm not so sure that they would be willing to drop the price that much, one of the reasons why I walked away. That bike has been sitting there since the summer, so it's been there a while. Make a reasonable offer but stick to your guns, let that bike sit there even longer. Last time I was there a few weeks ago there was two red 1098s', both of them asking price was too high. For a brand new base 1198 is around 18K, and this is for a 2011!

I was in the same situation as you back in November. I ended up getting a "new" 1098S with 600 miles on it for $12.5K. As part of the deal, the dealership did a full service on the bike including belts. They also replaced the battery, which I would highly recommend if you get the bike. After 4 years of sitting, the original battery was done & wouldn't crank the bike. Other than that, the 1098S has been flawless, such an amazing bike to have in the garage. Good luck with your decision!
P.S.- make sure all the recalls have been done on the bike.

$15K is ridiculous. $12K to $12.5K is still a good price. As stated already, you will have to catch up on service and depending on the dealer you may negotiate that into the final price. I wouldn't worry about the extended warranty. It's (more than likely) an 'aftermarket' policy with lots of stipulations and conditions. BTW: I have a 1098S...LOVE IT!
