Exhaust question
Hello all,
I just got my 1998 748 a couple of weeks ago. It has what appears to be Termignoni exhaust cans on it. But, there are no identification stickers or serial numbers (that I can see) on them. When I pulled the seat off, I can see that the computer has been cracked open as the warranty seal tape says "VOID".
Does anyone know how I can tell if they are in fact Termignoni cans? Is there a serial number or part number on them somewhere that I could see if I took them off? Will I be able to tell if I open the computer housing and look at the chip? And on that note, Do I have to disconnect the battery before I disconnect the computer? Another odd thing, the computer has a label on it that says "Matt Westermann". I know it's a long shot, but has anyone ever heard of Matt? It would be awesome to talk to the original owner to get some history as the bike has absolutely no maintenance records.
Thanks for your help folks!

I have the Termi CF Half system on my 748 and the strap on the circumference of the "can", which is used to rivet the can onto the endplates is marked with the inscription "For Race Use Only". There are no other markings of any type which I can see anywhere from the mid pipe up.

So, if the cops pull me over for speeding I can show them that and tell them "See, I had to race or it won't work!"
I'll look for that. I was thinking of taking them off this weekend anyhow because the previous owner never heard of things like degreaser and shop towels. Thanks for the reply!!!

I am in the same boat to a small degree. The guy I bought my R from was the only owner, imported it and took very good mechanical care of it, but used it as his touring bike so it is pretty dirty in places that don't get seen often.
A word of warning... I was doing the same cleaning to the Termi CF can's and got a carbon splinter in the palm of my hand. All I can say is that you might want to wear some heavy work gloves while doing this. Not sure if you have ever been in a machine shop before, but the pain from this splinter was on par with having a chip of stainless embed itself in my index finger. That was 4 days ago and still have a huge sore...

Okay, so I couldn't find anything on the pipes. However, I pulled the CPU cover and the chip in there is:
Fast by Ferraci, Inc.
F00170 04/00
So, I'm assuming they are Ferracci cans. What does that mean to me? Are they the cheaper solution to the Termi's? Better?
Also, on the bottom of the computer case, it has:
Magneti Marelli
IAW 16M.A0
16M409-BIP947
DUCATI 916 BIPOSTO EU
61600.272.01 Z 12V
This is a 1998 748. Curious as to why it has a 916 computer on it. Is it the same across models?
There's nothing wrong with the way the bike runs. Was just curious what kind of exhaust it was on the bike, and the trail led me here.

here's an idea...snap a picture and post it here. there are plenty of people that will be able to tell you what it is just by looking at it. since it says Ferracci on it, then you probably have a Fast by Ferracci exhaust on with a 916 ECU, which apparently works on a 748

Here ya go...
And here is a picture of the current offering off the Ferracci website
http://www.ferracci.com/store/cart.p...ct_detail&p=30
Just curious what kind of added performance this gives me, and if it was a minor score or a big score $$$ wise. I paid $3k for the bike. It has 21k miles on it.

The 1.6 Magneti Marelli ECU is consistent across all of the 916 platforms, which includes the 748, as well as the ST4... The EPROM inside the computer is different as it contains fuel maps etc. specific to the engine for which it is being used and in your case is specific to your aftermarket cans...which I'd say are definitely Fast by Ferracci.. a decent aftermarket item for sure

According to the pics, you have FFR forza slipon cans. These new cost quite $ but used not much, $300 ~ $400 max, 3K is not bad deal but let see the rest pics of the bike
