Suspension Adjustment

Hello:

I bought a brand new 2011 848 Evo last year and I drove it off the dealer's lot without first having a mechanic set my suspension for my weight. Recently, I had the suspension set for my weight and I was surprised to hear the mechanic explain that he didn't think it was necessary to adjust my rear suspension. Thus, the mechanic only adjusted the bike's front suspension. My question is: does the mechanic's conclusion sound okay to you guys? I weigh around 185 to 190lbs with full gear on. I never ever have passengers.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

as far as I've heard from a suspensions pro, the 848/1x98 bikes are setup for 180-190 lb riders from the factory. sounds like you're spot on in that range so maybe that's why your mechanic left it untouched.

I have heard the same thing for the 2011 and 12 848s. They are set up at the dealer for 200lb riders or for riding 2 up. I'm 200lbs and my '12 848 seems ok from the dealer. Is your 848 as hard to turn in or lean as mine seems to be? I need to get my suspension set up for me to make a final decision but it seems like i'm fighting the 848 to turn in and exit a turn. I might bite the bullet and get some ohlins 30mm cartridges for the front and an ohlins ttx36 for the rear if I can't get the suspension to feel right.

I only have 600 miles and just dropped it off at the dealer to get the fueling fixed. My 848 was neutered under 4000rpm or %20 throttle position (closed loop section). At 3000rpm there is a huge lean spot in the stock tune, I read that this is because emission tests are performed on motorcycles at 3000rpm so the A/F was set to 14.7 under 4000rpm and leaner at 3000rpm. That made my run poorly in my opinion. I'm not looking for the most HP or racing but stock the 848 was hard to ride with the fueling issues and a 15 tooth front sprocket. I still love this bike, I must to justify spending so much money on it

Don't waste your money on 30 mm cartridge.
Get the sag set before you buy anything.
If springs turn out wrong replace those.
Getting an adjustable ride height rod is the next option for chassis tuning.
30 mm cartridge is probably some of the worst money spend in this case.
