DDA application for MacOS (plus source code)

For a couple of years now (when time has permitted) I have occasionally been working on an application that allows the DDA to function with MacOS and additionally offers a feew more features than the Prosa application included with the DDA.

With the release of the Panigale, there is a new DDA system and it is supported on MacOS (I'll look into this later - hopefully someone can send me some files).

Anyway I developed my application to the point where it has the following elements:

The Good -

Read DDA dongle (4MB version only)
Load DDA files from disc / memory stick
Display the DDA data
Add and cancel lap markers
Export the DDA info to a the file for incorporation into other software (such as GPS tracker or video).

The bad -

The application was never released into the wild, so there are no instructions - it is intuitive though. I never got a Mac to successfully connect to a 2MB DDA (2007 and 2008 bikes).

On another level, I never got to experiment with enough DDA dongles to really stress test the DDA communications with the Mac (to my satisfaction) - it does appear to work though.

Other Notes:

I never received any assistance from Prosa or Ducati (I did ask) so everything is based my own observations and deductions; however because I've never had access to the original specifications, I cannot be sure that I am right in all cases.

Final Bit

Attached is my fourth revision Beta along with the source code (in Objective-C), now that it is in the public domain, downloading it means that you accept that it is supplied "as is" and is to be installed, used and / or modified entirely at your own risk. The code cannot be used for and commercial purposes (without my prior permission) and I request that any improvements are communicated back to me - especially if it involves getting the knowledge base improved.

Andrew,

Thanks for posting the DDA tool for MacOSX -- I downloaded it and it is working very well on my OSX 10.6.8. As you stated, I can't read my 2MB DDA but I can read my 4MB DDA which was written by my 2008 1098S and 2009 1098R.

I never did like the standard software very much from Prosa, and I have been having difficulty even loading files now from my new windows laptop (windows XP). Your tool has a lot more adjustability in setting the colors etc. It is also helpful to be able to download the data to a CSV file to be able to look at particular areas / corners. Someday I'll figure out a way to link my GoPro video with the DDA data and post it on youtube..... maybe.

I've attached a screenshot, and I hope everyone can see it -- this is my 1098R with traction control set on 7. It always amazed me how often the traction control was actually on. Since this time I've gone to Pilot Power One tires and gone down to 3 for the TC which seems to be working well for me, at least in keeping the rubber side down...

Thanks again for posting up the tool....
Greg

Andrew - that's rad! I've had some thoughts of doing something similar but never got started.

Mad props. How hard was the device to reverse-engineer? What tools did you use to determine the protocol to interface with the DDA?

Greg - that's a neat idea to link some video footage with the graphs... combining all this would make a killer piece of software.
