saw the 1199 yesterday
on the Brussels car and motorbike fair.
Holy mother of jesus... They sure did it again...
A lot of the sensations i remember from first seeing the 916 back in '94 were back. Perhaps was the 916 more of a quantum leap - a leap that most other brands are still trying to close down - but again, the 1199 makes all other bikes on the fair look like lawnmowers.... hitting the 848 evo hard and setting itself up for demoding / dethroning the D16...
none of the picts i ve seen on the net so far do it justice... especially the nose / cone part is truly exquisit and far from the 'droopy' eyed nose the pics make it...
Is made me realise what it really is we all love Ducati for: Of course the heritage and the classi Duc things. Rumble, trelly, .... but mainly the ood ones out with the guts and courage and eventually the gneious to throw everything away and to come up with something different... and yet still so very much ducati.
One look at it and you know it can only be a ducati. This is what sets it a part from all the other 'heritage' brands. doing what has to be done to push the boundary, to innovate without loosing it's soul.... the spirit of taglioni and Tamburini is so much alive in the current generation of engineers... and the 1199 they came up with...
gentlemen, I salute you!
some mehanics i know pritty well already have had the wrap on it and they are raving about it.
sitting on it, it feels very tiny and compact... no stretched arms and heavy forward leaning... everything close together.. pegs not to high even at over 6 feet...
i can't wait for the first reviews to come in...

It looks beautiful no doubt, but like everything Ducati seems to do-did they "over do" it....electronics, all these new little ingenious ways to handle engine heat and management, engine braking, etc, etc.....no doubt they can draw up and bring to fruition a stunningly beautiful machine....but will it function as well as it looks....or are they opening a Pandora's box of warranty issue's and dissatisfied owners.....I hope not.

come on ... italians and eletronics... it is the natural match
well didn't wel think that bikes would never get 150 bhp?
i just got back into bikes november 2010 ... i couldn't believe how things have developped...
i prefer for them to overdo it than to lag behind...

Kope,
I'm just wondering how tall are you? I'm 6 '2" and just ordered a 1199 and was a little concerned about how cramped I might be on it. I owned a 748 before and had no problems on it but was just wanting to know if they were comparable?

Well their a Racing company first and everything else comes second. Although I would have liked to see a new air cooled twin w/ 130HP, swoopy fairings, Ohlins, etc. that won't exactly cut it on a WSBK grid. Don't get me wrong I hope Ducati sells them out for 2 yrs....because above all else the dealers need another big selling flagship model, they deserve it after suffering for a few years.
As far as the ergos, it's my understanding from someone who sat on one at the dealers meeting in FLA. that they are rather excellent-surprisingly. He's a pretty tall guy, long legs and he loved the ergos.
We'll see......

The Panigale is roomier than a 748.
I own a 748 and sat on the Panigale at the UK show last November. I was surprised how much space there was on it. It certainly felt more comfy than my 748.
I'm 5ft 11 BTW.

Hi ducky,
i'm 183 cm ( 6ft +) and 110kg...and it fitted well.. my 05 999R with the race seat feels more bent over.. my feel was that it will be thrown around the course with a lot of ease wit hte bars closer to you so more prone to stronger input form the bending of the arms...even fixed on the stand it felt very nimble ... much more like the Aprilia 250cc 2strokes or 400 VFR's bikes ... to be honest: sitting on it, the idea of 195bhp was scary.. much more than yesterday, the engine dominates. and the rear suspension is truly magnificently constructed...
I truly think the bike will blow everyone away...
congrats!
gr
