848 wheel compatiblity?

I'd like to get my hands on another set of wheels for my 848. Does anybody know if the wheels from a 748 or other Ducat will fit?

I know I'm probably better of using the exact same wheels, but never hurts to ask.

I do know the rear wheels fit with out a problem. The front will boltup but the offset of the brake rotors will not b/c of the offset.

Hit up the search function as there are some threads on here that go in depth about this.

Correct, the front wheel of a 748 will fit but it will need 6-hole, 15mm offset rotors and a spacer to fill the speedo drive cut-out.

The front wheel of a 749/999 will fit.

The front off any of the 999 and 749 will work, the black ones are gloss instead of matte. The brake rotors off the 749/999 are also the same 5 bolt 320mm. You can use the 1098/1198 front wheel/rotors as long as you put the little 5mm brake caliper spacer from those bikes for the 330mm rotors.

Rotors are what ends up costing you money if you buy new ones. Best to buy a complete front wheels combo if you just want cast wheels.

I scoured eBay for quite some time looking for deals and then a forum member sold his magnesium 848 wheels (thanks mduc!) for a screaming deal. With heavier aftermarket rotors (thicker), they weigh about the same as the stock cast wheels.

Hypermotard and Monster 1100 wheels also bolt on and there are forged models out there. There are some gold cast wheels off the Monster that might look good on your bike as well.

Forgot to add, some newer Monsters & MTS1200 use different offset rotors, so watch out for that.

Thanks for all the info.

Gotta recharge the toy fund but hopefully by summer I'll be ready to add another set of wheels. I'm sure some rich squid around DFW will toss their 848 down and the pieces will show up on E-Bay or one fo the salvage sites. Or maybe AMS will have something. No rush - other toys are needed for March before I get back to the bike.

BTW - Eagles Canyon is running backward this coming weekend (2011-01-21). I don't think they have ever done that before so it should be an interesting ride should anybody care to partake. PM if you want on the guest list.
