999 fuel leak at quick connect and fuel pump

I just installed a new exhaust last night and encountered an obvious leak! Picture attached.

During the final assembly of the tank/seat/tail one of the quick connect fuel line couplings that attaches to the fuel pump was not secured.

Just need some advice at to refastening the coupling with the least amount of labor(i do not want to removed the tank or seat if I dont have to)

Also, I've read there that the o-rings are very fragile and easily rendered useless. Outside of greasing the o-ring, are they any tehniques on how to make this a quick and easy job for a drunken no talent hack ducati mechanic?

Looking at doing the work tonight so I can ride to work in the morning.

Thanks!

Ummmm....

Dont mean to sound like a dick, but just push it back on. ;0) Yeah, they can get damaged, but look it over and if it looks like it doesnt have a cut or any dirt, gently push it back up on there. just make sure the goofy loop/lock clicks into place.

Run the bike a bit with a full tank, maybe a piece of paper under the connector to make sure theres no drips and good to go.

well, I tried to "plug" it back in, and I cant get it to snap into place. What am I doing wrong? Do the quick connects just plug/snap into place by pushing them, or some other trick to it?

The bike has a full tank. If i pull the the connector out, how much gas will spill? is there a valve to stop flow on the connector?

I can barely fit my hands in there, let alone see how the snap-contraption works.

If you possibly broke the compression tabs then you may need to replace it. Not a big deal. Its is easy to take them off once you get the feel, but can be broken if forced or possibly just broke. If it will not snap on and stay, then order a new one for sure.

i loosened and jacked up the tank assembly, unlplugged the connector and noticed the black o-ring was broken in half.

removed it and plugged the connector back in. doesnt leak at startup, or idle, or at varying rpms up to 4k..

was thinking about going for a ride in my neighborhood to see if it leaks.. I'm just trying to see if it can make the 20 mile round trip to the local Ducati dealer.

is it possible for the quick connects to hold leak-free while missing 1 of it's two o-rings?(the black on that is on the very tip)

One of mine leaked a bit even with an o-ring in there. this is starting to sound risky in my opinion. Then again, I have done much scarier things.

If it does leak and sprays fuel on th hot exhaust was it wort it. I would replace both o-rins and or the entire fitting if the plastic tabs were weak. Sometimes it is just not wort it to risk it. But I am sure in my younger years I surely did.

You saddle the bull and decide if you want to get onto it mate... I would be very nervous riding this particular bull

After a quick test-spin around the block, and finding out that my dealer is closed today, I rode in to work.. My Duc is my only horse as I sold my car several month ago... cant say I really miss my m3 convertible.. or sitting in traffic.. or paying for parking... I never drove it in the rain anyways, so the sacrifices have been minimal aside from riding my bike today with a suspect fuel coupling.

I guess i'll pick up two complete couplings and replace both of them.

All in all, the exhaust swap(swapped my remus for a termi slipon) wasnt too much of a pain in the ass, but I really disliked having to finesse the tank/seat/fuel lines/tail assembly just to replace a slipon. I already miss my Remus exhaust.. love the look of the termi, but it's so much quieter and less free flowing.. My Remus would blast cylinder exhaust pulses that you could feel from 10 feet away, and sounding like rolling thunder, with a much crisper bark on off-idle blips.. the termi is so much tamer.
