5 spoke wheels

I've been looking at some 5 spokes to replace the 3 and I've come across two different variations of them. Are they just from different models or there different manufacturing process involved? Thanks

If I recall correctly, the one with the spine bracing by the hub in the bottom pic is magnesium, the top is aluminum.

Top is cast aluminum

Bottom is cast magnesium

Get pictures of the back of the rear wheel to check condition of the locating pins. On the magnesium, check for signs of oxidation. It is very common on the hub of the rear wheel.

I recently put OZ Racing forged aluminum wheels on my 1098 and Sport Classic. The OZ Piega weighs about the same as the magnesium 5 spoke:

The first picture in the first post is cast aluminum from a Monster. The red wheel above is a cast aluminum from a 748.

916 wheel will fit 848, but not 1098 because it has a larger axle.

Also what I can add that 748/996 5 spokes with ridges (cast aluminum) are 5.5" wide, not sure about the Monster wheel in the top pic, but the 5 spoke Mags are 6", at least I never come across a narrower one, 'cept for 5.75 Corsa someone was selling recently but it's for a different axle size.
