Spare Tank Storage

Have a spare tank with pump in the garage these days and don't want anything to dry out or otherwise. Can't see just filling it up with fuel, so any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Jim, how about filling out your profile AND letting us know a little something about what kind of tank this is...Sherman? Abrams?

You dont want moisture or oxygen into the tank when storing for the longterm so?

Make sure these corrosion causing elements are removed as part of the process (dont store with fuel in the tank btw, the modern stuff has additives in it that attracts moisture so could create problems in the longrun)

Open tank and drain it of all fuel
Allow EVERYTHING to evaporate (including fuel in filter and pump. If it was me then I will disassemble the tank completely and manually drain and clean every component using compressed air.)

Use a fogging agent to liberally coat the inside of the tank. Spray it into the tank and try to reach all nooks and crannies then drain the excess liquid which may colelct. Finally throw a desicant bag in the tank and then close everything up. Stick a note on the tank to remind you there is a desicant bag inside of the tank.

Wrap the tank in wax paper, then box it and store it away with a few extra desicant bags put into the storage box to get reduce moisture content.

Basically, thats what I did to the Bayliss tank I have. (Metal fuel tank, not sure what they do to modern plastic fuel tanks)

Cheers

If it's a Sherman or Abrams I'm not interested. But if it's for a 999 I'll exchange it for money and keep it filled up for you...

I drained & removed my SS tank for the Winter, removed the cap body, dried out the tank completely to remove any traces of water/moisture (SS tanks are known for rotting on the back corners), rubbed a little engine oil on any rusty bits, wrapped it up good in bubble wrap & stuck it in a large padded box in the spare room. Nice and snug with no risk of condensation or damage having let it breathe a little inside first.

Unfortunately I went cold turkey last week due to our unusually mild Winter, refitted it, filled it back up and went out for a blat over the weekend...
