Pressure plate replacement...
Good afternoon everyone. I am in the midst of a winter rebuild for my '02 748R and am looking to replace the stock pressure plate. Are they all pretty much the same or are some better than others? I have seen some anodized ones that were marked "Ducati Performance" but am not sure that I have ever seen aftermarket or replacement parts sold by Ducati themselves.
Just looking for the opinions of the Ducatisti Collective... Thanks in advance.

The 748R has an OEM slipper clutch, which greatly limits you on options... really only SpeedyMoto comes to mind as a direct replacement. A standard dry clutch pressure plate won't work and I'm not sure if any other slipper clutch pressure plates will be a direct replacement.
Shinobi Pro Ducati Pressure Plate - For OEM slipper clutch - Red - Only fits 748 R and 749 R: SpeedyMoto Ducati

They do. They make and sell some aftermarket parts. Not very many as far as I've seen. The first thing that comes to mind is ECU, which is also marked Ducati Performance.

Ducati doesn't make any of the accessories they sell marked as Ducati Performance. They are all made by outside suppliers - ECU by Marelli, clutches by Bucci, suspension by Ohlins, etc... They have quite an extensive catalog of aftermarket parts.

Yes, you're right. I should've said "they sell" not "make" aftermarket parts. My apologies for the confusion. In fact Ducati doesn't make most parts that go on the bikes. I assume they make the important parts such as frames, engines, transmissions, wheelies (maybe? ), fairings (maybe?). Not to mention, that just like most manufacturing companies, there are certain parts that you can only get from Ducati even though they don't directly make the parts.

Ducati doesn't actually make the frame, wheels, plastics, etc... either! The manufacturing is all outsourced. They used to machine cylinder heads, etc... in house, but I'm not sure if they still do that or just assemble the final product at this point. Does anyone else know? I haven't been to the factory in a while.

Fascinating! Thanks for posting! Being a gear-head and an engineer working in manufacturing, I'd love to see the Ducati factory someday. Do you have any idea what year this documentary was made? I'm sort of confused on what the big deal about this bike was, because I thought Multistradas have been around for several years . Or were they just not as high-tech before, not the 4-in-1 bike like the new Multistrada?
