DIY fork seals on 996 (Showa's) or Get an 848 front end?

Well I have searched and looked through numerous post and found that there is a bit of info on the Ohlins forks for these bikes but not the Showa's entirely...so I am planning on doing this my self but wanted to know if anyone has done this (I'm sure they have) and what are some of the tips, tricks, tools needed to do this?

I also read where some people were using the K4 GSXR seals on these fork for better sealing. What is the concensus on this topic?

Or should I just do a complete 848/1098 front swap b/c eventually I want to put 10-spoke Marchesini's on the bike.
Thoughts on this would be helpful.

Thanks,
David

Changing fork seals is pretty easy. Do a search here, or Google "Showa fork seal replacement" and you should find good articles with pics.

You can get 10-spoke marchesini wheels for the stock forks, I have them on my 916.

That said I have now fitted an 1198R (Ohlins) front end on my 916 - still using the 916 marchesinis though.

Otherwise changing fork seals is fairly easy but also not expensive to pay someone else to do either.

Yeah, I know the 848 or Hyper wheels will fit but I was wondering if there was an advantage with the newer forks. Plus bolting up a set of monoblocs would be nice and easy with them readily available on eBay and places alike.

However, after reading through some threads I am going to attempt this myself. I have replaced seals on my dirt bikes in the past so I think this is not beyond me.
I have been trying to maybe find a set of forks already setup but I haven't had that luck yet. I may put a post in and see if anyone wants to unload a set for a decent price and I could just sell my current set.

Thanks again for the help on the Translogic and speedo set up. I just moved and haven't had the time to fine tune it yet.

Thanks,
David
