2005 999 gearing?

Ok so I wanna do a 520 conversion on my 999, and was thinking about going -1/+1. would this be too much? It's only going to be a hard canyon carver! Thanks in advance for any input.

Here's a great calculator. Load in your current setting, and then some alternates. The charts will provide all the info you need to make decisions. (this is also the best tool for planning gear sets at the various tracks)

Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator

Do you have the stock gearing now? How many miles on sprockets and chain? I have a 520 conversion on mine (I'll look up the gearing tonight, but it's not stock) and don't like it all that much. Everything has at most 3K miles on, but very likely less (all together the bike has 3800 miles). Chain is gold. Everything is in perfect working condition.

If you're interested we can do a direct swap, but I would be interested only if it is at leas in similar conditions as mine (aka very low miles).

Why don't you like it? Mine is stock and only has 3800 miles, we may be able to work something out. Lmk what gearing you have!

Does anybody have any real life comparison, not really looking for math numbers wanna hear about real life tests.

P.s. No offense to those who gave math statistics, thanks so much. It does help, but just wanna hear peoples opinion.

It appears the gears I have are 14x37 which makes it a ratio of 2.64.

Well, two main reason that don't make me sleep confy:
1) aluminum sprockets wear out quicker than steel
2) 520 chains are weaker than 525

The gearing itself is not to my liking. I feel I can achieve the same result by using a lower gear and at freeway speed the RPM are a little too high.

I'm just one of these folks that thinks the drawbacks of the setup don't outweigh the benefits, which are definitely there. Again personal preference.

Here's a few pix:

As far as I know there is no way to remove the chain without braking the master link. Other than that it's pretty simple.

If you're interested post similar pictures to ensure your setup is in the same condition.
