999 front wiring harness

I've been reading that the per-2005 front wiring uses a round plug while the post-2005 (like my bike) uses a rectangular plug. Does any of you gus know if aside from this difference, there's any other difference in the wiring itself?

If you are referring to the main harness plug/receptacle located on the left side feeding the front, its round on my 2004 999s. It also looks round on the 2006's according to the shop manual. Also the number of wires, color and pin locations are identical. The plug/receptacle feeding the key switch is rectangular.

That is the plug I'm referring to and I can definitely say that mine is rectangular (2006 999S).

But knowing that wiring color and pin location is the same is really what I was looking to know...
