848 cutting out

Hey everyone. I just bought a 2008 848. It had 1800 miles when I bought it. It has a full Termi exhaust. The problem I am having is that the engine will cut out at slow speed or at a stand still. It usually happens when I have the clutch in but not always. It doesn't cut out consistantly but usually about once a ride. I took it to the shop shortly after buying it to have them look over the bike in general and told them about it. They said something about the valves not being turned open for the air to flow in for the exhaust. When I rode home from the shop it died on me! It doesn't sputter or lurch forward at all, it just cuts out. One time it cut out on me in a corner! It starts right up afterward though. Any thoughts? Thanks for your time. I am new to the site and love it.

Sounds like VR issue... have you replaced the voltage regulator? 2008 is known to have this issue and a recall has been issued (08/09).

For the record, I also have an 08 848 and mine sometimes cuts off when I'm approaching the red light / stop sign in neutral with clutch engaged (I had VR replaced as well). If I'm in gear and don't hold the clutch in then it's fine...

Sorry to hear.
Their qoute sounds fishy to me, but I would have liked to see the exact words.
If you can communicate by mail with them and have it in writing it will be easier to analyse what they say/mean.
And if you like to have a second opinion of what they say just pm me.

The 848 will not do that when setup right, easy as that.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just got back from the shop...again... They told me they adjusted the TPS (throttle position sensor) and that it was running rich with gasoline. They told me the bike normally runs at about 4% fuel to air ratio and mine was running closer to 7%. I have only ridden it home from the shop but it did not die on me so hopefully its fixed. I will let you know what happens. Thanks again for the input.
