748S top speed
Anyone with a 748S that can tell me what the real top speed is? I am topping out at 143 MPH in my new (to me) bike and I thought they went a little higher.
BTW, I weigh about 185 lbs. and I ride at sea level. The bike just had a major engine overhaul (new bearings, rods, crankshaft, etc.). Don't worry, I did the proper break in before trying to attempt this.
Thanks!

What gearing are you running and what revs did you achieve?
Was that a two way run?

No, nothing that prepared.
I was just riding and found a long, empty section of a road and gave it my all in 6th gear. It seemed to level off at that mileage, even though I had more than 4 or 5 minutes into it.
I was just wondering, I thought I had read somewhere that these bikes could do 155 MPH.

I weigh around 145lbs. On my 748, when it had stock gearing, I had it at 148mph on good stretch of road. Maybe it was wind, but it wouldn't go any faster. However, I didn't pin it to redline, just below.
I found that maxing out 5th before shifting to 6th was best.
And, the percent of error on speed increases the faster you go.

Ducati (as per owners manual) claim 240kmh which is 149mph.
We all know that manufacturer's claims are usually on the optimistic side and set under perfect conditions, optimum rider size, position etc.
So 143mph would seem about right to me...

also, speedometers show with 10-15 km/h more then real speed. still 220 km/h is not that good, anyone has the ideea of a 916 top speed?
i never dared to max it out , cause of no good roads here and i m not suicidal yet 120mph was max for me in 4th gear at around 5-6k rpm

152.24 mph on my 748s (gauges). i weigh 187. 916 is just slightly faster than a 748s but has more torque.

Ducati claim 260kmh (162mph) for the 916, some 20kmh (12mph) more than the 748.

i'll be damn if you did! even if you took 2 gears out and you're calling the 6th gear your "4th", i still wouldn't believe it. 4th gear at 6K rpm will get you about 80 mph at best.
