Help with Corse ride height tool 999/749

Last week I saw a Ducati Corse ride height measurement tool and I made hand drawings on a piece of paper and took some pictures. Now I have made a digital drawing of the tool and copied it in a picture of the service manual of the 999.

As you can see in the attachment the angle is not horizontal (the two dimensions 234mm and 256mm are not 100% accurate). When I make it horizontal it will not match my preliminary hand drawing (I'm about 40mm off). Does anybody have a similar measurement tool? If yes, can you please verify my drawing?

Thanks!

Hi Dennie,

I have a DOS ride height tool and one of my own that we manufacturer, and honestly, I wouldn't get worked up about the thing being level. There are too many variables involved and it wont stay level. The point is to have a baseline measurement to verify and secondary measurement from modifications.

The only question I have is why go to the top frame hole?

Hi Brian,

You're correct about the start point of the first measurement (it doesn't matter if the tool is horizontal or angled). But I will try to aim the RS setup of about 250mm rear height. I know the RS has a longer swing arm. I think it is 25mm (need a confirm on this one). With some simple math I can determine the rear height for the shorter street swing arm.

The upper hole in the frame is just taken from the RS tool. I'm not sure why it is the upper hole.

Regards Dennie

We use the Corse tool and are looking at making our own based off it. Since the 999RS and now the 1098RS, Corse made their tool that locates on the upper frame hole for consistent accuracy from bike to bike. Small frame/welding inconsistencies have less effect if the two locating points are further apart. The half dozen aftermarket companies all copied the 916/998 Ducati tool (some with added length).
As you say, it doesn't matter so much for a reference on the same bike, but does when sharing info.

Hi Mark,

Can you please tell me if the angle I have is the same as on your tool? When I put my picture in the frame drwaing of the service book (see attachement in this reply) it is not horizontal but angled down. Thanks for the help!

Regards Dennie
